My syndicate is shut for next 5 weeks due to spawning and i wanna get out for a 72hr session starting weds 16th and I am torn between Bluebells or Farlows (unless someone can recommend somewhere else with good head 20's or maybe even a 30+) I am based in East Herts so both lakes similar distance

I think you'll have more chance of a decent swim at farlows. It'll be busy but more chance I'd say

Never been to farlows but I think bluebell is hard to beat for scenery, fish size and quality ,don't forget weed and barbless a recipe for disaster at bluebell, in my opinion anyway.

Does anyone know how busy Bluebell has been this year?
Looking to visit a fair few times July onwards once all club lakes / syndicates / rivers etc are back open post spawning
never visited the place, but looks a lovely complex

If you follow bluebell on Facebook at all, you will know it's a circus at the moment, people bivvy of up behind you to get on your swim when you leave.

Never understood this personally. For one I don't have the time to bivvy up behind someone for a peg.
Been to farlows though and highly recommended it.

Been happening on many circuit waters for decades, that's if you have the time to wait, to get you into a good/better/excellent swim with feeding fish in evidence, rather than a fishless swim. That's what some choose to do.
Or leave a go to another less busy venue.

I saw a lad bivvy up behind someone on a dayticket once,he never asked the bloke so he must of asked at the office.It backfired massively when the bloke went and booked on for two more nights due to having fish on his spot.The look on the lads face was hilarious when he realised what had happened

I had someone bivvy up IN my swim when i was about 14. Bank sticks in, rods set up waiting for me to leave.

thought you had to book in at ticket office at Bluebell on arrival - dont you have to start paying upon arrival?

Bluebell Looks lovely.....
3 rock hard lakes and 2 'easier' lakes...
You'll blank on Mallard for a week np if you don't happen to be in the right spot at this time of the year..... many swims stupidly close to the next so with people coming and going all the time your likely to get a noob spombing next to your spot right in front of you.... Not that spombing out is any good unless your in the right spot no matter what you spomb out.... the fish.... this time of year forget all the deep areas and just hope to get over to shallow weedy areas. - the easy spots next to the road can be poor this time of year (hot weather) other than the ends where you have shallower areas and weed. Finding weed in the deeper swims are targetting them produces nothing.
Swans are mental and will take your rods out - dominant males terrifying the youngsters across the lakes and if your rods are there then they'll be wiped out.... Birdlife constantly irritating, rats are huge.
Friendly welcome, high prices, shop with not a lot in it other than terminal tackle (they do have a few other bits but it's limited), shop sells a few grocery bits and if your lucky they'll have the generator on so the fridge is working for a cold coke.
If you like the smell of puff you'll be in for a good time...... Seems to be more the norm than not as one puff head goes another one drops in.
These are just my experiences of being there for a week recently.

Surely you have had the Rat problem? The Rats at Bluebell are legendary, always have been.....loads of them and they are huge....

Only been 3 times, soon as its dusk....never seen so many rats, it truly is rat city, not like the complex is strewn with litter either, but I've never fished anywhere that bad for rats.

100% sure that's the case, all the hemp n pellets n corn, always be some spill.
Had them in the bivvy at night, not good.

Grim. I think I'm right in saying that if it's SSSI (don't know if it is or not btw) then they can't out down poison or traps.

It's not an sssi....unless there's been a recent status attached for the presevation of land regularly populated by purple Argos tents.....
.......owner always had dogs and its a dog friendly site so presume that's why no poison or traps...

I've been on Swan for 3 3 night sessions and not seen a single rat I had heard it was bad before lockdown but seemed rat free on all different swims.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread. Me and a couple of mates are heading down to bluebell on Thursday just wondering if any of you have fished it recently? Is it still stupidly busy? It's just we are travelling 100miles to get there.

Word to the wise... I was at farlows last week and there were so many rats in my swim (12) of lake 2 that we had to move at first light... other areas not so bad. Cracking fish, very commercial, watch out for the power cables. I put a pva bag over one
