I'm after a new landing net and want peoples opinions on the easiest to use, I struggle removing the current one from the block. Years ago I had one were you pushed a metal block on a hinge on to create the tension in the spreader , does anyone know what model this was I'm thinking trakker or aqua. And what do people recommend.

Jrc did a net like that,you could look at top notch tackle they do the same block.I have got one on my custom aviator net,its very well made and very easy to use,it is slightly heavy but with a net float on its no issue

ye JRC did one called the x-lite like that. I think the new solar one has something similar. i had the JRC one found it really heavy, no idea what the solar one is like
maybe its just the net your using has a crappy spreader block. i have a dymag and have no problems with that but its a very expensive bit of kit

Have a look at the new Matrix net.I have two - and they are fantastic.
I changed from the ESP Terry Hearn net, as it was too deep a mesh for the water I was fishing at the time. The Matrix net is fantastic and very easy to remove from the block.

I can 2nd that, I have the Matrix camo net in both sizes and it's a doddle to remove

I had the same problem as you struggled to set and break down some of these nets with the tiny spreader blocks but the matrix camo was recommended on here to me and can't believe how easy it is to use highly recommend

I have the aqua 2 piece landing net. No problems with it at all- easy to break down. Stiff and light which is what a landing net needs to be.

Fox Trigger Lock if you can get one. Still using mine and works a treat,
For some reason I always go for a Prologic net, bought the Avanger net last week before that had the CC20 and Cruzade

I have the matrix net in my custom built net, it was the only black net I could get at the time I've had to re stitch it's twice now which is annoying.
I use a top notch spreader block which although heavy is great, allows me to separate the net arms and pole and pole and manage the fish easily.

The net in question was the JRC X Lite Roamer. I have mine in front of me now on the bank and still my favourite net for the speed you could collapse the net and just unplug the handle to bring a fish onto the bank. I have a Century net and it may be light but it's useless.
As for the JRC X Lite's being heavy, mines a 42" and a nightmare in a strong wind to hold, I have just replaced the net with the tackle box spare net and it's now worse, almost two handed job netting a fish when it's wet now, weighs a ton..

You wont go wrong with the Xlite. Brilliant net for the money, had a few different nets over the years, spot on, sat with mine too

There seems to be a big difference between the X Lite and the X Lite Roamer which i don't think you can get now. Today's X Lite do not have a collapsible spreader block.
And realised now, mines a 50" not a 42" and no one last year had a JRC 50" in stock so had to get a tacklebox one as I needed it quick. One or two of my local shops did not stock spare nets and put the emphasis on buying a new landing net complete or even want to order you one.

I brought the new Aqua landing net in December. So far I'm really pleased with it. Comes out and goes in the block nice and easy.

I have the JRC Roamer X Lite in 42 and 50 inch versions. I have just bought a Solar landing net so would let the 42 inch go. It would have to be pick up though.Romford area.

I have a 46” hi-S net and love it. But am starting to struggle with the small block, especially when trying to take it down with a fish in to move it.
I need a second net and that matrix camo net looks a good alternative.
I am very lucky to fish a lake where most fish are 20's and probably every 10'th is a low 30, with the chance of fish to 40.
Should I go 42” or 50”?
I'm thinking sell the hi-S net and use the money plus some for 2x matrix camo nets.

I've got the jrc roamer net it sound like the one the op used
It's a badly designed net you can't remove the net arms from the spreader block, makes moving fish from the water to your mat a nightmare

The JRC X Lite Roamer is a good net. The arms are connected but the whole spreader block detaches from the handle via a short extension. Fold the arms, pull the extension off the handle and move to your mat. it could not be more simple

Guess it's just me then that doesn't like the fact the arm don't detach from the spreader block.
I like to weigh a fish still in the net inside the sling and found block and handle got in the way, I've had the net for a few years now and honestly don't like it's design, I originally brought it thinking it would separate like the solar bow loc

I used such Jrc net in the past, glad I got rid of it and found the Prologic ones

If so I used to find parting those two pieces difficult on occasion, I put it in down to the joint creating a vacuum so I drilled a 1mm hole to allow air in when being pulled apart.
If you're talking about a 2 piece where the 2 pieces are equal in length I've not come across that type but maybe it would work on them?

Both, have had the Jrc Cocoon and the JRC Roamer.
With the 3 ProLogic nets I have never had a problem getting them apart, arms are also very easy to remove from the spreader block.

The arms in mine with pull out of the ali block to reveal just bare carbon net arms. Maybe they used to be glued in and now just slot out - don't know how to do pictures on here to show it.

They are a snug fit but slide out easily enough.

. . .most of the metal block variants are sh*te - they get filled with grit / chewed and end up being a pain. Cheapest solution is to buy a Fox moulded spreader block . . .you'll have to negate your inner tart but these work with most net arms and whilst secure under tension are a doddle to pop out with the 'elbow' method . . .
Wish someone would re-make the Rod Hutchinson Springlock . . .best quick release / quick collapse net ever made IMO . . .mine is still sulking in the back of the shed as the connection on the pole end broke . . .
