Sorry to keep asking questions, but I as a beginner I feel I need all the help I can get and I dont value website reviews who spam amazon "buy now" links as much as I value yours.
I will be trying overnight fishing for the first time soon and I need a quality bite alarm for under £100. Obviously this is an imperative bit of kit for overnight fishing and as such I need one that will wake me up and has good battery life.
Ive heard good things about the sonik and jrc bite alarms. What do you guys recommend and are there any that come with rechargeable batteries as replacing batteries is a nuisance.

Batteries last ages so no pain to change. The jrc alarms get great reviews on here. You may pick up a set of used higher end alarms for 100ish, I got some atts a couple of years back for that price

2 rods at the moment but might get another rod. Is a wireless receiver crucial?

Wireless isn't crucial, but a definite plus point. If you are new to doing nights then there is the danger a run won't wake you up which is a big no no,so a receiver of some sort would be beneficial. Plus you don't have to have your alarms cranked up loud and wake the rest of the lake up. Most newer alarms have wireless ones .

I fished 20 years without a receiver
Get 2 Fox mini Micron X or Nash S5R, buy the receiver later if you need one
You can always buy an extra alamr later and add it to the set.

Receiver is not essential in my opinion. My lad uses some Fox N alarms without receiver and they are fine.
NEW alarms within or close to your budget which will be fine:
JRC CX 2+1 £120
Prologic SMX 2+1 £125
Fox Mini micron £30/alarm (no receiver)
Fox Micron M £40/alarm (no receiver)
Sonik SKS 3+1 £135
SECONDHAND you mat be able to get some ATTs, Nash, or better alarms from the above manufacturer. Prices I've just taken off ebay, so you may be able to get them cheaper.
Note, 2+1 = 2 alarms and 1 receiver, 3+1 = 3 alarms + 1 receiver. Wouldn't worry about batteries, they last for ages.

I was going to say the Prologic BAT alarms. Amazing alarms for the price. Got a pair for my son and I use them for day sessions on the park lake and they haven't missed a beat. You can get a set for c.£80 which is fantastic value (£84.99 for a set of 3 with receiver on Garry Evans website). Read lots of positive reviews for the JRC which have already been mentioned and I don't think you will go wrong with either of these

I just ordered 2 JRC C4 alarms brand new for £40 delivered. From what ive read on the description they are basically identical to the CX's. I will add a receiver later. What bobbins do you recommend to go with them?

Your C4s will be absolutely fine for what you need but they are NOT compatible with a receiver, just to warn you.
Bobbins wise - they all do pretty much the same thing - if you want them to match the alarms, get JRC ones, if not get what you like the look of - some that are adjustable with add-on weights are a good idea as they are more versatile

Best advice would be Marketplace on Facebook. Plenty of the Nash RS1 alarms about and they are bulletproof. Get much more for your money that way than buying new cheap ones

I would not buy any alarms that i could not use a receiver with certainly NOT !! the ones you ordered
great for day fishing but far to many people sleep thru a BLISTERING RUN because they dont hear the heads but a receiver inside your bivvy close to your head wakes you and does not piss off the rest of the anglers at night

Cheers mate. I just ordered the set of prologic bat+ bite alarms. Did a bit of research and 9 out of 10 people recommend using a receiver for night fishing. I guess 1 out of ten people dont mind waking people up in the middle of the night!
On a side note, can you recommend a good duvet or sleeping bag to go with my bedchair. Im still undecided between the sonik and wychwood bedchairs at the moment

The guy in the video doesn't come across as the most charismatic bloke you'll ever meet, but he explains the workings of the alarms much better than any written post will do.
It was watching that video that prompted me to order mine, I got them at the reduced price he paid so they were even more of a bargain.
They are a very underrated alarm set, and well worth the money.

Either the Wychwood "Slug" bobbins if you don't mind the looks of them, (Orange ones work best for visibility), or if you want to spend a little more you won't go wrong with JAG "Safeliners".
But there are loads out there.
Just avoid those cheap sets off Ebay with massive great dog choker chains attached.

You could get a couple of fox mini micron x's for just over £100 and add a receiver at a later date.
Fox reliability is proven so it could be a good decision.
Backdrop differentiation, adjustable colour inc colour sync to the receiver, 6 sensitivity levels, beep for beep from head to receiver etc
