So going away for a fews days and need some power
Seen the bivvy boxs on ebay and the look OK. Just wondering if anyone knows anywhere I can buy all the bits to make one? Don't seem hard to make, just unsure on where to source everything at a decent price
Also, is there anything stopping me using a car battery, wiring a USB socket to it (inline fuse) and using that? Gotta last longer than a tiny 9ah battery?

I just use a normal non-fishing power pack off amazon. 26ah for under £20. The bucket power packs, in my opinion are 99% carp tax.

Another option could be a 30 amp or so lead acid battery and a power inverter in a plastic tool box.

Would I need an invertor if I used a USB socket that's for the like of a car?
Don't they have the invertor within the device? That way I could use a spare car battery I have laying about?

It's not an inventor you want unless you intend to feed your phone with AC which I assure you it would not like.
DC to DC step down convertor 12v to 5v for about £8 to £15 if your phone will not accept 12v. A fast charge function would accept a higher voltage and current, never had much to do with it though so best to check.

You can get versions that do the same with tails but like I said you need to check if your phone or whatever will accept 12.6 volts
Buck step down convertor will drop the voltage if required.

Thanks mate... Just checked and as its a note 20 it can take 15v as its one of them fancy fast charing devices

For years I have just used a normal car battery, usually my old ones off my car or from a scrap yard. So long as you do not drain all the power out of them they will last a long time. But drop the battery level to much and you can kill the battery life all together and it will not charge. Off top of my head you need to leave about 20% of the charge.
You also need one of these and from that you can plug into it multi cigarette sockets with USB ports combined.

Thanks for that zac, that's exactly what I'm thinking, I have a old car battery-and a.leasure battery is only £40 for 50ah. I'll just replace then cigarette lighter with the USB quick charger that I linked and should have power for weeks

Phil, as zack says you need to keep some charge in whatever battery you use.
Different types have different safe d.o.d. ( depth of discharge)
Normal wet acid is 50% so try and keep the voltage over 12.2 volts as a minimum for a good battery.
AGM (absorbent glass mat) can be discharged much lower and is spill proof but more expensive so might not worth it for what you need.
You will also have an advantage over the off the shelf power packs in that they normally rate their ah capacity using 5v. Your ah rating will be at 12 v so will store 2.4 times more energy, which will more than offset not fully discharging your battery.

Anker Powercore is the one I have its something around 22,000 MaH and it will charge my phone 5 or 6 times, as well as charge my Bivvy light as and when needed.

Put it into a clear box with lid and run a - /+ to two brass 6mm bolts protruding through the wall and I can then use as my charging ports 👍

I'd question if it was any good then chap, a phone and e cig shouldn't take anywhere near that kind of juice to recharge them . Those Anker packs do my phone 5 times

You must have one of the smaller ones. They do a range of sizes.
The larger ones are excellent and will do everything you need.

Average car battery is what, 40ah? Around £60? Get two of the ones I mentioned in post 2, 56ah for under £40 and it doesn't weigh as much as a car battery and need all the inverters. No brained in my opinion.

I've got one of these I use for 36 hour/overnight fishing(when it's allowed)and never run out of juice, just leave the phone plugged in with radio app playing in the background.
Spot on for the money, I seem to recall OldGeezer put me onto them years ago👍👍👍

I have to use a Cpap machine when I night fish and these are by far the best, and most well made I've used.
