I'm after replacing my big pit bait runners with some ultegras, but getting so confused about models and sizes!

I think I'm after some 14000 (these are for my ‘big rods')

Would anyone be kind enough to explain the different models please? XTA etc

Shimano xtd 14000 black is the one most people use depends how much you want to pay

2021 just focus on the ultegra 14000 xtd or the more expensive but much better ultegra ci4 14000 xtc/xsc

Ive owned both but the ultegra ci4 14000 XSC/|XSC is lighter, studier, better clutch. I would choose this model if your budget allows it.

Are same reels, same specs only XTC = gun grey XSC = silver with gold

XTD - low tier
XTC - mid tier
Power Aero.- high tier
Mag Tech - top tier

Essentially as you go up the tiers/price ranges, the higher the ball bearing count, the smoother they are, the lighter they are, the more waterproof they are... Your choice OP.

Same reel, body/size, just jazzed up with the exception of the MGS having a slightly different body to all of them... Same reel whatever way you wanna slice and dice it Carp Forum bro.

So is it just spool size that is diffrent on the 5500 and 14000 models?

I've both 14000 and 5500 . And the reel bodies are also different sizes not just the spools

So what would peoples prefered size on a 12ft 3.25 test rod with 50ml ringing be.

On my 3.25s I have the shimano ultegra xtc ci4 5500s brilliant setup and don't need anything bigger than that, I can get to 100-120 yards easily with it. Obviously if you need to fish further get the 14000 bud

I've 3.25 torrix with Ci4 10000 ultegras ..I've also put my ultegra 5500's on the same rods and come up a little shorter but I don't use over 2.5 oz leads on the 5500's for some reason. I prefer the 10000's on this rod the balance feels better.

I also use the xtd5500 with 3.25lb rods.... ctx's although with 40mm ringing. 120 yards easily.

Think it's just down to personal preference mate, I use anything upto 3.5oz leads if needed most common lead for me is 2.5oz when I don't need to cast anything further than 80yards. Some of the waters I fish though are smaller and no need to cast more than 50/60 yards but I find the ci4s a good all rounder for my type of fishing

1st letter: X - power reel
2nd letter: T/S. T- carp reel (fresh water) S - surf reel (salt water)
3rd letter: A,B,C,D... (A-first generation, B-second generation, C- third generation and so on), so A,B and C is an old reels. Actual model is D.

And ci4 + go according to their own. A and B models is out to date. C is an actual model.
