Hi, I recently upgraded to a Canon M50 (body only), I'm looking for advice on a lense for mainly trophy shots but also general angling/nature photography. What would be most suitable the EF 22mm F/2 or the EF 50mm F/1.8 + adapter or any other suggestions? Also to avoid another thread is there a better option for a remote than the canon BR-E1? Thanks

The EFM 32 f1.4 is the one for trophy shots. I use the EFM 18-150 for general/wildlife. It's better than the specs suggest.
I used to use the 50 f1.8 adapted and it's great on a budget.
No idea about the remote though mate.

Intervalometer are better than remotes for fishing shots, although the m50 is lacking the port to accept one there are apps available with the feature

I've got the M50 and I've been using the 15 - 45 lens and that was ok but I have just brought the f2 22 lens but haven't tried it yet but it does seem to be good. I've been using my iPhone as a remote and that seems to be working ok.
What I don't like on the M50 is if you set it for multiple shots it rattles them off where as I like to have a 1 or 2 seconds gap between shots.

Download the app Cascable mate. It turns it into an intervalometer and you can set the amount of photos and time between each shot. It's what you need 👍🏻

The sigma 30mm 1.4 must be a contender for a catch shot lens, it's excellent on mft cameras, just a bit bulky with a lot of competition

I can't speak for that particular Canon fit Lense you have mentioned.
But i've got a 50mm 1.4 Sigma Art Lens on my FF Nikon and it is stunningly good!

It's an excellent lens, and half the price of the Canon one.
For Sony or Canon m users it'd be a great choice.
It's a good choice for olympus/Panasonic users too, but having the Panasonic 25mm 1.7 at half the price and a third the size limits its appeal

Not with this Camera it isn't. Old tech that's redundant with Bluetooth enabled cameras. A bit like fitting a cassette player to a new car...
I use my M50 with the Canon Bluetooth remote - nothing can touch that for ease of use and of course you don't need to even have it pointing at the camera. Brilliant for self takes and the camera re-focusses on each shot, so you can get everything perfect as you pose the fish. One of the reasons I chose the M50, apart from its compact size, was to have Bluetooth enabled remote shooting.

Easily THE best lens you can currently get for the M50. Prices fluctuate a bit, I got mine for £390, which is peanuts considering what you're getting. Definitely the Lens you want for this camera and spot on for fishing photography/self-takes. Personally, I would never skimp on a lens and buy the best I can .

Imo a remote (Bluetooth or otherwise) is a step backwards from an intervalometer. However, I'm yet to see a Bluetooth or wireless/app intervalometer that looks really decent.

Each to their own, if I couldn't use an intervalometer I'd use an air bulb before a remote
In your boat I would have got a speedbooster and used the l glass on the smaller body and get the full frame look from the crop sensor

Does this model camera have the custom timer like up to 30 seconds or is it just upto 10 seconds and does it take multiple shots and also with the lens canon EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM do you have to have the camera quite far away like on the cheaper canon 50mm fixed lens for DLSR

Intervalometers are IMO are old tech and utterly redundant. Most shots I see from people using them are out of focus. You take the shot one at a time and re-focus as you do it. Firing off a burst of shots over a given time isn't very intelligent, but each to their own. Even an infrared remote does a better job than that.

Are you mistaking an intervalometer for a self timer? . Intervalometers focus for each shot. Self timers do not. A remote is just an intervalometer that has to be actuated manually rather than automatically (programmed).
A self timer fires a burst of shots. An intervalometer does exactly what you tell it to. Which imo is more I intelligent than actuating remotely.

It has a self timer which as siluremark alluded to is poor. You need an intervalometer and the m50 has no port to accept one.
It's the sole reason I got the M6 instead if the m50.
You can get closer with a 32 over a 50 👍

If you'd have the 50mm 10 feet away, you'd have a 30mm 6 feet away. Actual distance would depend on your preference but that's a fair bit closer

How are you holding the fish and pressing the button, and is it on show in the picture?
Sometimes I get annoyed with the interval timer as you have to set it to take a lot of shots to give yourself a chance when a fish won't play ball. I have a wired remote I've made a housing for so I can press it with my knee, but I use it with the interval timer on a short delay. It just avoids getting multiple shots of me trying to control an angry carp, let's me set it to shoot just three pics, and I don't have to hit the button for each shot. I can also set it for more shots and just cancel it after a couple of decent shots by hitting the button again. It focuses for each shot with the interval timer too, whether I set it for 1 or 999 shots
Plus it means I can use a longer lens without having to step away from the fish, particularly useful when you want to obliterate the background so you don't give the location away
