Been offered x 3 for £400 I've got SS3000's but always fancied the 5000t model am I mad buying or do they make a difference at range ?

If they are in good con get them , you will sell for more.

Not sure you'll notice much difference between ss3000 and 5000 t,... the 6000 are a little bigger

Deal done pick them up later 😁 will be interesting using the Subline Tapered line he's just spooled onto them over my Ss3000's and 20lb xline

They a top reel mate just a work horse same as your ss I had mine a few years and had emblem z 5500 before and I noticed a difference a mate of mine swares by them and believe me he can sling a lead with them

I have a set of 4 and think they are superb not used them for a couple of years and I'd hard pushed to sell them.

Cannot recommend the Weston Slow Oscilation shafts highly enough for these - just had my 5000ts done and it's amazing the impact these have had on line lay and casting

I had my old 6000T's done, line lay conversation by Weston, great line lay, even on 15lb plus lines.

Yeah you can buy direct and do it yourself, or (like me) have them serviced and fitted at the same time. Think it worked out £80ish a reel with full service and a few other parts needed.

I have a few mates who have fitted them themselves, but mine were in desperate need of a cleaning/service so made sense to get it done at the same time.

Well worth it, feels like 3 new reels

Apparently the 6000T line lay convertion is harder to fit yourself, than the 5000T kit.

I would just get Weston to do it personally, give them a call, get an idea of timescale and send by recorded post.

I stripped and rebuilt my 6ks the issue you would find which cost my a few quid (when I damaged the first one) is that the screws that hold the worm gear on to the spindle shaft has loctites screw lock on them. A 100w soldering iron sorts that out.

If memory serves I damaged the screws had to drill them out and managed to damage the worm gear on the spindle. Or something like that. Once I'd striped it down I realised the screws had lock tight on them and so used a soldering iron to free the other four screws on the other two reels.

A bit of a plonker moment.

They worked well with Kordas Subline in 20lb could put a PVA bag 110-115 yards easily with my 13' balisters.

I have Gardner's pro line in 15lb on them at present. I'd personally wouldn't go any lower than 15lb BS.

Berkeley CM90 would be another id try.

My mate I got them off had Korda tapered subline on 12lb-40 I'm gonna take them for a cast tomorrow,I've been using 20lb x line for probably 10 years...

I've been using Flouro carbon for a few years now and it's ok personally wouldn't use it on the 6ks then again if they where my only reels then maybe I would. I have a set of ISOs which again I've used fc on and I've stripped it off. If I was to use fc again I'd get another set of spools for my ISOs. I also have a set of Linear Xs with three sets of spools with mono braid and FC and I'm just taking them off my 2.5lb Torrix and putting the ISOs on to them and my 6ks back onto my 3.25 Torrix. I intend on selling the Linear Xs although I think they are a cracking reel.

I love the 6ks having serviced mine thought they are as good as the ISO, had custom reels service my ISOs and they are a lot better than they where out of the box. Both lovely reels.

Why wouldn't you use on the 6k ? I have been asking myself how will it behave as it's springy

Only because I'd use the 6ks for distance work subline is a reasonable compromise sticking FC on and casting 50 yards plus just seems to me to be a waste and ive not really found any real benefit using FC it just impedes the cast and I really haven't noticed any difference in catch rates using FC at those distances. Marginal work it may come into its own hence I'd get another set of spools for my lighter rods.

You make a good point I've got it on my SS's anyway...I'm gonna try the tapered sub line tomorrow see how it feels if not I do like the look of ESP syncto XT 15lb

Cool well enjoy, The 6k does allow for a longer easier cat than my ISOs although they are very good. The 6ks allow for a higher breaking strain and better distances. I am intrigued about the Weston Development spindles and may upgrade mine at some point.
