You will have VAT and duty added on as normal and the iirc £12 handling fee to pay to the royal mail

is this above a set amount?, it use to be below 15 quid for the item and there was nothing to pay, but i think that 15 quid low value item allowance has gone now?

Try and get them to put samples or gift on the label that used to get round some of it as did lowering the value.

right ive talked to ebay , and anything we buy from outside the uk will now have 20% extra added to it, upto 135 pounds, after 135 pounds we still pay it but it will be taked at the point of customs and not the seller,
im pretty sure im right about the vat after 135 pounds,
and im defo right about having to pay 20% on everything from outside the uk
for eg my 2.97 method feeders are now 3.50

I'm surprised. I can understand the government making charges for goods coming from the EU over a certain amount as this already happens to worldwide countries. What I can't understand is how ebay is dealing with it as goods under a certain value (say £18?) are not subjected to charges so looks like they want to make 20% profit out of nothing.
I look forwards to an email from ebay explaining

"how ebay is dealing with it as goods under a certain value (say £18?) are not subjected to charges so looks like they want to make 20% profit out of nothing".
they defo add it without choice to the seller, to stop any of that marking it as a gift, etc, they give the seller no choice,
and you cant avoid it, it only shows it when you go to pay and not the listing page
because it is subjected, we all have to pay it now,

This applies to China?
If so what reason do they give as low value gifts should be exempt , nothing in Brexit should've changed that

Most goods are subject to 20% vat already it all depends on if they pass that cost onto you the end user or not.
They are not/should not be going to charge it twice.
Your 2.97 method feeders will probably still cost you 2.97 just buy from a different named seller even though it will be the same seller....

Could there be an issue if the trade agreement that we did have with China was part of an EU wide deal? Now that doesn't apply to us so unless a continuation of terms has been agreed there could be changes.
I expect this is what the bulk of the 'new' trade deals are - an agreement to continue under the same terms we had as EU members.
On another note, are China not the enemy of the free world anymore? Just wondering. ..

If you go onto Ali Express, there is now additional tax to pay on all items
If you go onto Ali Express, there is now additional tax to pay on all items
The UK has scrapped the low value exemptions..it's not to do with Brexit it just so happened to coincide with the dates, 1st Jan.
Now all items imported from outside the Uk will incur additional costs
Under £135 total value and the vat should be paid at time of purchase
Over £135 (single consignment value) and it will then require vat / duties paying on import and so will likely also incur handling fees.
This is for items from the whole rest of the world

Lol you're welcome, team effort
Although I'm not sure it is a simple 20% for vat, there will likely also be import duties which are different rates for different items. Fishing general bits seem to be 2% I think
tariff lookup

So unless someone finds a loophole (which is likely they will) it's no longer cost effective to wait two months and buy cheap **** from Chi-nar.
We will have to buy the same **** from a UK seller and get it within a couple of days. Considering all the important things happening in the world today is it such a big deal?
One thing I've never been to understand is how a Chinese seller can sell and send something to me cheaper than I can send something to someone within the UK. If Royal Mail is subsidising the far east then that has to stop.

the loop hole will come from the ireland republic , and northern ireland , that has always had a history of vat and fuel tax fiddling, i gues sellers will start popping up in northern ireland , because i think to keep them all happy they may not have to pay the vat, or they will just cross boarder from the republic then post to us, one thing is if its going to happen , it will be like that, and lorrys bringing in high value small items instead of all the nigerians and imigrants over the french crossing, so to save the 20% for eg battery packs , usb sticks, memory cards, etc etc

We'd never do that over here
Must start up a new career as a Tackle Smuggler,
I've bought nothing from China since Brexit or any where else outside of the UK either as I have read a few horror stories of people being stung with taxes and import duties.
But, just before Xmas in a Black Friday sale, I bought a Deeper chirp+ for £199 from the Deeper website. I was shocked to find it was coming from Lithuania, an EU country. I did read some where when I looked into it, that anything above £135 additional cost would have to be paid.
Following the tracking on it, when it got to the UK it was logged as being at an Import warehouse and was there a few days, I feared the worse that I was going to get stung with some additional costs that would bump the price up more than what the full price would be in the UK.
But, when it was delivered, there was nothing else to pay.

China is not Europe. So things might stay smooth for Great Britain if the relationship between these two countries is pretty friendly. However, I noticed a sudden price increase in pills and necessary things. GB is an authority, powerful country, but it struggles with relations, and people suffer through inflation, high taxes, and reduced income. I did a lot of thinking and concluded I needed a loan to survive and make a decent living for my family. I opened bank accounts and took loans in international banks with the help of generate pay stubs. I need to ensure my future!

I only buy £1-£3 packets of beads, swivels etc on ebay from China and I haven't been charged anything extra as yet. It's so cheap if they did slap anything on it, I'd just **** it off and leave it personally 🤣

But the reality is, HMRC haven't got time to look at a £1 packet of beads (example) and if they were to slap a shedload of charges on to such a package most folks would just walk away anyway. I have just received 100 PVA bags from China for a few pounds delivered, and interestingly the seller marked them as worth 50p on the shipping dec. It's happening left right and centre.

RigDemon. HMRC are no longer involved directly.
The responsibility to charge VAT was forced upon Ebay back in 2021.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre/global-sales/2021-vat-changes#:~:text=From%201%20March%202021%2C%20eBay,EU%20sites%20when%20listing%20items.
A great many cheaper items seem to be ignored...once you get into the £10 plus bracket then you appear to get stung more often....often unknowingly as it it not shown on the listing that VAT has been added just if you go to "See Invoice" or check bank accounts.
Editing the search criteria to show just UK items no longer prevents this either as if the item is listed as being in the UK but the seller is registered outside of the UK then VAT may be applied.
Ebay also attempted to clamp down on sellers that listed "Gift or Sample" or with a reduced price on the shipping manifest labels to avoid extra charges being incurred but that mostly failed.
A great many blamed Brexit for this..It was only that there was a shakeup of how HMRC operated and how VAT and duty was to be implemented around the same time that gave the impression that Brexit was the cause, USA and China never being in the EU to start with.
