Which cannon is the latest one to still have infrared with flip screen all newer ones dont have infrared been looking at the 70d

I have a Canon 6D mkII and an M50 which both have the flip creen and bluetooth... which is way better than the old infrared, as you don't need to have direct line of sight with the fob to trigger the camera. I always found with my old 60D that a lens hood could impede the signal and I never liked having the fob visible in the picture. Also, often times it got awkward to hold the fish right and get the fob pointed right - with the newer flip screen DLSRs from Canon, like my 6D or the cheaper 90D and I think 800D, you just press the fob - doesn't need to be pointing at the camera. Just brilliant for self takes! So my advice is to go for a Bluetooth enabled version, which most of the newer ones now are. Infrared is being phased out, for good reason, it was always a bit crap.

Until fairly recently i always used an infa-red release and yes it was sometimes a juggle with a fish and you could see it in the photos......then i learned in about 3 seconds how to use an Intervalometer and wondered why i had struggled all these years.....

Thanks for the replys going to sell my lumix tz90 and put towards in new year probably going for the 70d and I use to love my old school canon g5 and infrared remote only reason really find it nice and easy

Yep, 600D. Mine is still working like a dream! I put my remote in a small sealable bag as well so it doesnt get slimed while taking photos.

Plugs in the side of my Canon camera.
I set it to give me a 20 second gap to the 1st picture (time to pick up the fish).
I then set it to take 1 photo every 3 seconds until 10 photo's are taken.
I set it to 3 seconds so if I use a flash the flash has time to recharge.
Put down fish and repeat for the other side of the fish.
20 photo's in under 2 minutes and jobs done!
Around £12-£15 on Ebay.

It has wifi so you can also load pics to your phone or use the phone as a remote trigger.

Another for the 600D here. Been using mine for the best part of 13 years or so now & with the L glass lenses I use (along with the nifty 50), all pictures taken as as good as anything else out there (as long as you know the right camera settings for the situation). High res images are all well and good with the higher pixel sensors on todays models but unless you are seriously cropping down the image, you won't see much difference at end of day especially once compressed by Social Media algorithms. Only real benefit is if you are going to be submitting them for printing purposes (yet again most consumer printers won't take advantage of the higher pixel count either). The only thing missing from the 600D is 4K video support but that isn't really much of a game changer there even if uploading to YouTube as they compress the video so much that a 4K stream is of such a low bitrate, it is barely noticeable difference to a 1080p stream).

While I agree high megapickle sensors aren't needed, it's nice to have more. The main gain with a more modern sensor is iso performance. Having decent quality at iso 3200 vs being stuck at iso800 is a HUGE difference

I use the 600D also with the 24mm pancake lens plus a Speedlite 220EX. Excellent quality and so easy to use.

600D handles high ISO perfectly fine with the right other settings to accompany that higher rate.

My lumix g5 didn't have an internal intervalometer? The g6 does, and also has a better sensor and would cost just a few quid more
@dieselvan, it would be fine if you have one and are happy with it, in the same way an HD TV is fine, but would you buy one now?

Just out of interest which intervalometer did you get to use with your 200d? I have a remote currently which is always a bit fiddly, or as you say the Canon app is great.

I've done that a couple of time with the remote for it, it said they were compatible and they were not once they arrived and is just a faff sending back. There was a lot of swearing trying to get it to connect!

Canon have two types of connector, one is a jack plug with three insulators, not sure on the other type

No I don't unfortunately, I'll have a look later when I am fishing, although I still wouldn't be confident in my decision. That's why I asked the chap who has the 200d what he uses to be sure

I have a remote for a 250D and it has a jack plug with 2 insulators. This is a wired remote trigger, not a intervalometer.
When i first looked for a intervalometer, my model of camera wasn't listed - haven't looked since.

I have a remote for mine that works, also the Canon app, but would be much easier with the intervalometer just to let it shoot away. I've looked through way too many options on Amazon and forums and cant find a definitive answer.

I also looked and couldn't find an answer. For self takes during the day i use 4k video mode and snip out the best shot. The quality of me holding an imaginary fish are really good. Haven't had to do that yet in a real-life situation.
I haven't worked out what to do at night yet. May try the same but using my Rhino lamp.

If you are buying a new Canon, just get one with Bluetooth and get a BR-E1 remote for it. Best ever way to take self takes - no wires, no intervalometer, and no need to have the remote pointing at your camera - shot is refocussed on every picture you take and you can hold the fish without the remote in sight. It is just perfect.

I find an extension cord useful too so you have the buttons near the mat, especially when user longer focal lengths and the camera is further away, my camera has a built in intervalometer so I just have a shutter release button on a 3 meter cord(+the meter attached to the button)
It saves having to take a couple of steps away from the fish
