Hi all,
Having recently had my very rarely used basic old Gardner pod nicked, i discovered this for sale for £12. My only trouble is i am struggling to find any banksticks that fit. When i do use a pod i like it pretty low, so purchased some cheap small (4 X 10-15cm for £10) banksticks which apparently were 12mm (NOT!!!). Has anyone got the afore mentioned pod and use it with non-chub precision lite banksticks? Im not really wanting to spend the earth trying to make good a pod base that realistically only cost £12. Just need four banksticks that would fit that i might need to doctor to length ideally in aluminium. The chub precision ones are discontinued and would be too long anyway. Would seem a shame to chop them when they are circa £15 a pop.

Could you no just drill the holes to 12.7 (1/2 inch) and use what you have?

Already thought of that, unfortunately not much material to play with to risk making the holes bigger.

The matrix slinky range is 12mm rather than 1/2 inch so should fit, the chub stuff was near identical to matrix too, I always wondered if matrix made it tbh
Worth calling Johnson Ross to double check the size first

Pleased you brought this topic up Matt.
I also saw the pod bases @ £12.99 from Total Fishing Tackle on Ebay and thought why have they got so many, so cheap ?
I then read this negative feedback..."Can't buy Bank sticks to fit as they're discontinued."
Researching further , suppliers that do have sticks want £17 + for sticks making the pod base financially unviable for what it is.
Matrix Super Slinky sticks, mentioned by duggs are similarly priced.
The problem is that banksticks marketed as 12.5mm dia. (1/2 inch) are actually 12.75mm up to 12.89mm, I've just measured Solar, Wychwood, NGT and Gardner ones with a Vernier caliper.
Drilling out stainless with a pillar drill and a carbide bit or cutter is feasible with engineering shop facilities but folks doing fiddle jobs for the price of a pint are long gone.
33/64" is the size most suited.
There is a similar thread on here..."Chub precision pod base" from 6th April 2020 if you search.
Seems like Total Fishing tackle have come across this problem...that's why the pods are selling at such a discount.

Trouble is a lot of companies will say 12mm when it's 1/2 inch(12.7mm) plus coating. I'll check the cygnet sticks later but they claim to be 12mm
I'm tempted to get one at that price tbh, but I wasn't impressed with the chub buzz bars and stage stands I bought, but it was cheaper and quicker to modify it to suit than returning it and getting something better, sounds like the pod base is the same

I've ordered from Mur before and shipped to the UK at not too extortionate a cost so that could be a decent option

Exactly.
They just say 12mm to distinguish between 16mm...18mm... or whatever....
It is NOT an accurate measurement....which it needs to be in this instance.

Just checked your links out.
Mur- tackle only have 16" in stock @ Euro 23.90...= £87.16 for four banksticks....before shipping..
hengelsport4you.nl have 12" and 16" sticks in stock @ Euro 12.50...= £45.50....before shipping....which is a lot better price.

HI just wanted to share for those who have a chub pod base or are after a new cheap pod the JRC txs banksticks fit nicely into the lite pod base. They seem to be identical to the chub precision lite banksticks and make a pretty decent pod set up for about £90 if you can get the pod base still (£30 of eBay etc...). I did remove the brass bits from the end of the pod with pliers, which are part of the no loss mechanism as these limit thumb screw movement and replaced them with solar springs for a tenner posted. Happy with the set up and seems very ridged.
Anyway worked for me and for the money very happy.

Hi - short answer is NO they will not fit. For some reason they made the holes only wide enough for the chub precession lite sticks but the JRC txs ones do fit.
Do not buy if you expect to use 'normal' banksticks as they will not work.
ps Zinno - its not crap given the right sticks the pod functions very well, made of stainless and will last a long time, and seeing as you can / could pick them up for about £30 compared to the similar Jag its a bargain

I had the original Chub pod banksticks with my chub pod base, for it's weight not a stable pod also crap to setup.
If you want you can set it up with 12mm banksticks but then you have to dare to turn the screw extra beyond the point where it is stopped, if you turn so far that the small metal piece that blocks breaks off you can tighten 12mm banksticks.

I drilled out my obelisk quad pod base to fit my banksticks, I only needed to remove a small amount.
Maybe thats also possible with this base?
