I'm on the market for a new bivvy. I have a Chub Vizor 1 man bivvy and I can't find the overwrap anywhere, therefore, sadly, I'm selling it to buy a more updated model.
Few questions;
What are you using and why?
What are the best, in your opinion, bivvies for thermal insulation (and any other good/important features) and what makes them stand out over others?

Trakker Cayman for most my fishing - Simple design, Lightweight, quick set-up and bomb proof. I rate this bivvy so much i bought a 2man version and a spare 1man version when they were on sale last year. Ive had a few other in similar design over the years (Cyprinus and JRC) but always come back to Cayman
Aqua MK2 Armo with overwrap 1Man - For winter or if i want a little more space ... Probably the bivvy i would have if i could choose only one
Trakker Armo MK1 2man - Longer session/france etc
Nash Ground FS System - For when i fancy being under a brolly or if weather is very warm as very well ventilated

Carp-Tech Oval - I cant even remember where that is

I've had so many over the years I obsessed with aqua for a long time owning multiple versions including a ultralight, m3, aqua light and fast n light but chopped them in since I got a tempest and I've changed all of them since and now own
A tempest air (custom army Andy front) plus skull cap and wrap (use this for 90% of my fishing) up and down in minutes light great footprint and covers all bases
A tempest xl with skull cap and wrap (use this when I'm doing 3 days or more) or taking the wideboy/kitchen sink - great bivvy with loads of coverage and takes hardly any longer than the air but weighs a bit more
And a cyprinus fast n light that I use for days and slimming it

I've got an aqua m3 compact excellent bivvy easy to erect but think they've discontinued now which is a shame because I would buy another and wrap.ive had the mk1 tempest,mk2 air but missed the peak on a pramhood bivvy.
As for the best bivvy there are so many options and there will be divided opinion some will like a brolley bivvy etc I'd say the best way to buy one would be to look at each option and make the decision based on your needs

I've got a Nash double top plus 3th skin for long sessions and during winter. Due to the inner shell, perfect to keep you warm.
I also have an avid tardis for quick overnighters and small swims.

Best bivvy I've ever had. No faffing around putting ribs together or daft elastics going baggy or snapping. Goes up in seconds with the wrap always attached. Put in the sticks, and it's as solid as a rock.

And what an absolute nightmare that is. Like literally I don't know how I manage sometimes. Slide 4 poles into a sleeve and adjust to the required height. F**k it, going to Mars would seem so much more easier, eh?

Those *amazing* Tempests do use storm poles too you know? And what about the rizla thin material the Tempest is made of? There is a reason it's light and it's not because they're made of some revolutionary new NASA tested material. Here's a clue... it's as thin and as see through as f**k.

Both of my Bivvies are over 20 years old (The Powerplus Professional and The Nash Oval Canvas (using a hog now).
Although the Titan and Dillo and various others over the years have raised an eye brow I really can't justify the cost nor need to bother as they don't offer me anything more than what I already have and mine will last another 10-20 years.
Interestingly the two cost me around £800.

I'm pretty sure the tempest is Aquatex just like the pioneer.......and is free standing so no need for poles or faffing about like its older ageing little brother the pioneer......

You need poles to erect it FFS and another set of poles to hold it up, its ridiculously long packdown and is heavy.) It is a 15year old design that was binned by Aqua for a reason and only bought back at a premium cost to milk the rose tinted brigade

It may well be made of Aquatex, though the difference in the thickness of the two is quite considerable. If you see one on the bank (Pioneer) take a look at the material, then have a look at your transparent offering. Well different.
Personally I couldn't give a rat's arse. If the Tempest floats your boat, good on ya. To each their own. The Pioneer isn't perfect; not by a long chalk, and neither is a Tempest. The Pioneer does the trick for me. Simple to put up and easy to pack down. Can get loads in it and it isn't too big that I've struggled to get it in anywhere. Had rib type shelters before. Yeah, they're good, just got fed up with putting the thing together, whereas the Pioneer gets around all of that.

My Cyprinus M4 uses a better grade of Aquatex at 20000hh Than the New Aqua Pioneer.......both are overkill IMO and add needless weight.......
You like the pioneer and that's fine if it floats your boat as you say BUT to say it goes up without faffing about is simply not true......I know as I had the original when it was released in 2004 and all the points mentioned by CM ref weight, pack down size were why it was replaced by the Tempest and why Chris Manifold said he cannot see it being improved any further......

Tempest v1 brolly all year round... And French trips, have utility front for longer trips or when my youngest comes with me 😁... Which is most weekends nowadays... Easy setup and versatile...
Also have armo mk 2 with aqua supa extended winter wrap... But this only tends to get used on actual camping trips nowadays... Very strong and roomy with the wrap on...

Cyprinus dpm4 with a wrap - only now used for sessions.
Mk1 fast & light cyprinus version with wrap - mainly used for day sessions but one of my waters has tiny swims so can double up for nights if needed. Needs the wrap if the weather is poor in my opinion
Tempest v2 composite - only just bought this for single nights and longer walks. Seems spot on and will become my main shelter I think.
