After thinking about it, I think that it's better downsizing my rods, cause I don't need to cast 100 meters and I mostly fish in medium sized rivers, I need a pair of great quality 10ft rods, I don't like scopes, but I've seen:
-Costwold pace compact 10 3.5(not sure if this high tc is gonna be a problem with feeling the fish)
-sonik insurgent
-wychwood extricator plus
-sportex catapult cs3
-free spirit s lite 10ft
Budget:300ish for 2 rods

Can't comment on the others but I had a pair of the wychwood extricator plus in 9ft 2.75 .
I can tell you that they were lovely, real crisp blanks and extremely light, had a pair of Daiwa emblem 25a br on them in the end, fantastic small water set up

I recently changed from 10ft 3.5 scopes to the CR pace compacts and the build quality is miles better than the scopes. Not as stiff as the scopes either.

Yeah even the garden ones are a nice rod.
Are the costwold stiff when playing fish as the tc suggest or the fact that they are basically custom rods with a great blank hide that high tc problem?
All these rods are in the 150 quid area, is there one that in your eyes stand out from the others?

Caraz, Ive got compacts and there amazing. If your concerned about the 3.5tc, they have 3lber due any day according to Tom when I collected mine recently. And a Spod rod in 4.5 so covers all the bases. I love mine. Superb rods that I cant praise enough.

The Gardner rods look lovely but expensive compared with what else is available. I have a set of Shimano tribal 10ft rods, perfect as they bend but can pull a barge out of the river if needed and a third of the cost of the gardner rods.

I settled on a pair of 10ft Extricator plus after having a number of 9 / 10ft rods; have had them since they came out about 18 months ago.
Best short rod I have used by a significant margin.
Lovely crisp action, good progressive feel with power without being stiff despite the 3lb TC.
They are super slim, light and look the nuts too.
The handle is excellent, just the right length and the grippy stuff it is made of is outstanding in all weathers.
I have them paired with GS 4000's and the balance is perfect.
I know there are loads to choose from, but these are very good rods.

They are expensive, but I bought a set instantly after picking one up. Build quality is on par with the customs I've had built in the past. I was after some 10footers with a proper length handle, and the Gardner advertising blurb... slim, crisp, steely feeling is spot on. Very light and well balanced in the hand.

Another vote for the cotswold pace rods here, since i got a pair of these I'm actually struggling to find the enthusiasm to pick up my big rods (harrison aviators + hearns etc) theres not been any situations the paces haven't coped with yet and i must admit i was very sceptical of the whole scope rod concept for quiet a while but having now used a similar type of product I'm absolutely sold on the idea, i have a pair of them with a 2 piece net in a little cotswold aquarius holdall and its so light and compact, the car seats don't need putting down etc, its taken a lot of fuss out of my local short session fishing for sure. As for the actual rods they're quiet powerful but with a reasonable action and plenty of grunt for snags and bag fishing should the occasion arise

Now I'm undecided between wychwood and cotswold, I've even seen the ECU empera 10 ft but I don't know if it's worth the extra 100 quid, cause I would like to have cork handle, but neither cotswold nor wychwood offers it

You could go cheaper and buy the Extricator MLT 10' cork handle rods. Very nice rods for the money.

I go for the Free spirit E class gold 10ft Gold, Price around £140/piece (wait time 12/16 weeks...)

Give Gary Peet a call at the Tackle Box and he will talk you through all the options. It won't cost you anything like £700, I think they charge £20 a rod build and adjust the cost of the fittings on the rod to what you want, you can go into the rod building section of their website and work it out, I'm going to speak to them today but with my options three rods come to about £410.

Are the cotswold thin like the extricators plus? Or are they a little bit thicker?
So I decided to customize 2 pace compact with the new tiforged air guides, he should have them available in a month or so,but I'm not sure about handles (which is the most durable duplon, shrink or cork?) and reel seats (undecided between alps centralock and fuji carbon dps), what do you guys say?
