Looking at getting myself a super warm jacket for winter and narrowed it down to these two. Any feedback on the ridgemonkey? I have had a fair bit of positive feedback on the Snugpak.

couldnt have put it better myself, if you shop around the web you will find the rm jacket under a different brand without the carp tax on....they design and produce very little themselves opting to rip off off other brands and add carp tax,what they did design themselves (cooker) turned into flame throwers and not pre heat tube. very poor company

Avoid the sj9 and get the snug pal Sasquatch. Better cut and more comfortable.

ive not got one but have actually heard good things about the ridgemonkey jacket and also you have to bear in mind the ridgemonkey is waterproof which the snugpack isn't so you have to bear that in mind.

Don't know about the ridge monkey but the snugpak jacket is brilliant. Quality, comfy and incredibly warm.

I dont know mate but it will be a re badged other brands jacket,just a case of stumbling over it...rm do very little to no research/design and development on any of their products.

I bought the size that I buy normally and it's fine.If I was going to be wearing layers underneath I would be tempted to go up a size,but to be honest you don't need many layers under it as it's very warm on its own

The sizing on Snugpak stuff is notoriously inconsistent so worth trying on/buying from a shop rather than online.

The normal torrent goes to low rating of -10 I certainly won't be using it in that.The extreme goes to -17 so if you're an Eskimo it will be spot on

Firstly I'd go with Snugpak all day long. Quality gear and does exactly what it says.
The next thing I would ask is how you intend to use it as that will in my opinion steer your decision.
Personally I would go with a layering solution rather than relying on a waterproof and insulated coat. If you do go for the waterproof and insulated coat then I would still have some kind of outer layer to keep your insulation layer as dry as possible - whether its a poncho or another waterproof jacket. As I see it I want the warm (dry) clothing when Im tucked away in my bivvy in the worst of the cold/wet weather. If you go out in the rain to recast your rods, go for a pee or are lucky enough to catch then your jacket is going to get soaked, which means when you get back into your shelter your nice warm waterproof jacket is going to be soaking wet, and everything else in your shelter is going to get wet from the jacket too.
I have an SJ9 and salopettes for when its really cold and an old Trakker Jackel jacket and salopettes as a waterproof layer when I'm going to be out in the rain for a while. But I also have a poncho at the ready to throw over me if I have to quickly nip out for something. Works for me anyway.

Exactly, the last thing you want is to be sat in your bivvy on a Winters night in a wet jacket, SJ9 or 6 with a waterproof over the top everytime

Another vote for the sj9... Had mine 3 years now... Super warm and very comfy to wear... You can literally just wear a tshirt or long sleeve base layer under it and that's all you need 😊
