Hi,
Im looking to make a bulk bait soak / flavoured liquid for a spod mix.
What im wondering is what I should use as a base or a carrier liquid for all the powdered flavourings and attractors I want to add.
Can I use a simple vegetable or olive oil ? or is there a better alternative ?
Thanks.

Hemp oil maybe (Good Oil) but not sure it makes much difference as it's just a carrier anyway

It will deffo make a difference .. I don't think for example I should be trying Castrol
Seriously tho, i think hemp oil will overpower the flavors i want to add so Ive since come up with peanut oil as the carrier and can then add a bit of hemp oil and various powders to this.
Is there anything else i can add to make it a bit more soluble ?
I guess i'm trying to make like my own, for example 'sticky baits cloudy glug' that they sell by the litre.
Is an oil even actually the best for a base / carrier ?
Thanks.

Wouldn't veggie glycerine be the obvious choice?

Ideal as a carrier mate. Most cheapo glugs are just VG with flavour added
It offers very little as an ingredient but as a carrier it's fine.

Well that search opened a can or worms for me lol
It looks ideal, I can then add my oils and powders to that. Thank you.
moving on then ... what is Propylene glycol, also looks like a base liquid often used in vapes ? Its seemingly sold alongside Vegetable glycerin ?

In simple terms PG is the chemical version of VG buddy.
VG is the one for bait purposes.

Ok fine. Really appreciate your input with this. VG is readily available and nice and cheap too.

"VG is the one for bait purposes."
I don't agree with that at all, carp are rather fond of PG by all accounts.

Well I'm no expert buddy so share the knowledge

First off, what is the purpose of this liquid?
I personally wouldn't use anything mentioned here as a base/main liquid (no offence intended to anyone who has contributed).
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention other sources of information (non profit) on this site but I've recently spoken about liquid combos for adding to boilies and spod mixes as well as rehydrating baits. If allowed, PM me for details. If that's not allowed someone please tell me!
Everything in the blend of liquids should play a role, not just be there for the sake of it.
Bulk type oil can aid attraction but I believe this is mostly coming from the visual aspect (think of an oil slick and the colour aspect).
Yes, it will rise and carry food signals through the water column but it will also “lock up” and bind up many of the food signals making them less detectable. Bit of a trade off there.
In short, use oil as part of the liquid blend if you wish but don't use it as the base/main liquid unless you specifically want it to act as above for some reason.
Side note- essential oils are different and are attractive and detectable in their own right.
Glycerine/PG etc is bringing very little to the party in this instance other than being relatively cheap. I would certainly avoid this.
If it's for out and out food signals then a blend of food type liquid will last longer than one single food liquid.
Simple example-
A good quality tuna hydrolysate on its own is fantastic, but if you want to further increase its attractiveness over a broader time period then adding a good quality (not many of these about!) CSL and Squid Brand fish sauce will greatly improve things. A powder could also be added.
Lastly, I wouldn't go down the route of just throwing loads of attractive things together thinking it will be even more attractive collectively. Often it won't.
Every ingredient should compliment the other.
Great to see people getting interested in liquids.
Good luck!

what is the purpose of this liquid?
He said hes looking for a carrier mate.
I'd also use a hydro to soak but that's not what hes asking for.

I'm asking what the purpose of the finished liquid will be.
If we know that then I am sure we can all give better advice.

Have a look at British Aqua Feeds, they do various liquids in bulk, maybe something they do will interest you?
Much better alternatives to Veg & Olive oil out there IMO.
I'd also probably add the liquids & powders separately.

Hydro wheat from baf ist what dna baits spod syrups are based on, and its pretty cheap.

I'm with Sam concerning Glycerin/PG. It has several positive uses in carp bait but I see no point whatsoever in adding it to particles. As for wheat hydro; that is one of the few hydrolysed products that I have found singularly ineffective.

Firstly, thanks to everyone for all the info.
There is bound to be lots of info on youtube but I thought id ask here first. So yep, if I can get that PM please
With my pre-teen kids now showing a serious interest in angling we have been looking at basic baits and what we can do to make them better and add extra attraction etc.
As a routine we collect the bread ends and ground them up, i buy them fairly plain pellets from the local farm store and use lots of Vitalin etc and then look to spice them up and they love getting involved. They can then use this at will.
The Stickybaits cloudy glugs, the Mainline glugs and even the ccmoore and tails up marine liquids I use in my own angling are all great additions but sharing these branded products for the kids groundbait is proving expensive and a bit wasteful so im looking to make our own bulk liquid that we can turn to that they can use at will and have some fun putting together. If it came out good, maybe I could use it myself.
I was thinking dissolving down a block of belechan, adding some liver powder and betaine in hot water for example will probably go off pretty quickly .. so I was thinking I add the above or simular to a preserving 'carrier'
.... Maybe we need a carp forum approved glug recipe

For a budget-friendly soak you could just get a bottle of fish sauce and add some spices. It is something to engage the kids and it's cheap.
If you want something to buy in bulk look at British Aqua Feeds or Bacarel Express and see what takes your fancy. I'm presuming they are fishing runs waters so you probably don't need to enter into the realms of science to ensure they are having fun catching!
Also, maybe they might enjoy preparing/soaking/boiling particles themselves if they aren't already. Lots you can do there.
Maybe even fermenting/letting them turn?
Just an idea
