Looking at upgrading my reels, have a always had shimano reels, been looking at the ci4 baitrunner, do these suffer the spool clicker problem I keep reading about?

Yes they do suffer the same spool clicker issue.
All shimmi's this is a defo weak spot sadly

I have had some standard Ci4 XTBs for a few years now and the clickers are fine on them

I've got ci4+ med baitrunners and think they are great. No problems with clickers yet. What difference does it make to the drag if the clicker mechanism breaks?

Ive got a set of med baitrunners xta ci4s, no issues with the clicker as yet, and if the xtbs are as good, would highly recommend.

Whilst it doesn't effect the working of the reel it is something we have all been brought up with and used to. It certainly helps in the case of getting a run without the buzzers on when setting up and packing up and the rods are last to go....
For the money it's poor IMO
It's only a matter of time before they go......nice to hear a few luck stories but sadly it'll happen eventually. If your prepared to not care then it's fine but for me I'm out!!!!

I'm with you. Had Shimano reels for 30 years. Wouldn't buy another until they address this. A purring drag is one of the best sounds in carp fishing.

I catch your drift and if it was an abu 7000 and i were boat fishing i would deem it essential. Not so much in a carp reel with modern alarms.
Love the sound of the slow click on the reel as a conger eel mouths the bait.

apart from the emotioal attachment to the drag click I find it useful to guage how quickly a fish is taking line during the fight and hence to what degree to adjust the drag. I fish a lot of overnights and playing a fish in the dark without audible click was very disorientating for me.

I was using three reels with 6 spools. it's a tricky job that needs concentratiuon but not difficult.
but the really annoying this is when they go they go, and it's not something you can do by the lake in the middle of the night. with 6 spools I was finding one was going every few months and the more you bend them back the weaker they become and the quicker they go next time.

No it's a doddle,future fishing in Newark sell replacement clickers.The ones shimano should of fitted in the first place

When i had XTB's all the drag clicks stopped working so sent off to Felindre for a so called fix ... returned working great but ladd packed up again within few months ... I wouldnt buy a Shimano pit reel again unless this is resolved. If a £50 reel doesnt have this problem i dont see why Shimano cant sort it out

I think on a different thread it was said they should last 5 years until need replacing.I guess it's down to how much use they get,mine should last at least 20years as I don't catch

It's a simple fix if your first concern isn't having a quality reel sell them and buy a junk diawa reel they will wobble click clang clutch go jerky spindle bend you will have loads of noise if you use them for anything but winching sticklebacks in .They will make you think your at home grinding coffee .

I have the Ci4 Big baitrunners and all 6 spools have had the clicker go.
The clickers only come in when fish are taking from the drag - Not the baitrunner facility, where they are still working fine.
I do miss having a clicker on the drag though and if that fix from future fishing works, I think I'll get them.

Has anyone got a link to the replacement clickers (couldn't find them on the Future Fishing site) as it seems inevitable they will go at some point it would be good to have a link for future reference?

Give Ryan a call at Future Fishing & he will sort you out with anything you need reel spares wise. I get all my spares from him & he can also get the most obscure bits/bearings you may want that aren't always listed on the site.

I've just bought a second hand pair of these and I noticed if the bail arm is open it doesn't automatically close when you real in! Is that correct? As there both the same you have to physically close the arm yourself.
There not the Ci4 version but the cheaper medium baitrunners
