Anyone know which companies make 10ft retractable rods like the scope or Sonik extractor?
Got a 10ft extractor and while I like the rod, the build quality of mine is not good (misaligned eyes) which has put me off buying anymore Sonik gear

Hello mate, I think you'll find the build quality is poor on all the cheaper retractable rods. I use Nash Dwarf rods and their poor too lol..

Not used any of them just giving some options.....

I use a set of 10ft 3.25lbs Xtractors.
At first i had an issue with one rod having a smaller piece of cork above the reelseat compared to the 2 other rods.
The tackle shop replaced it with a matching one no problem.
I'm happy with the Xtractors though and landed fish to well over 40 on them.
I also use a set of 10ft 3.5lbs Cotswold Rods Pace Compacts.
They're in a different league, but also a higher price bracket.
Worth every single penny!

Most people use the 4.5lb TC versions of the rods they choose. Aqua now have dipped their feet into the extending rod market. If you want the Creme de la Creme of compact packdown rods, look no further than the Dymag range. Not extending butts. but 3 piece rods which have had no expense spared.

I think the new type of rod is better I had the Harrison three piece when they first came out what a pain putting away a setting up I would go for pace

Not a problem packing away at all. I use some 4 piece Fox Floater rods & they are no problem at all taking down or putting together.

Is there not a risk all these retractable rods will wear like the scopes. Not sure how this can be prevented. It's acceptable maybe on a £50 rod but if you want something which lasts it feels like a big risk

I would imagine there is but I've just rebuilt a mk1 scope for a friend because the butt section was pulling through and they're definitely fixable. I made the mistake of cutting off the butt ring at the prep stage until my wife pointed out enough of the retractable section pokes out when you remove the end cap
on the plus side this has given me enough confidence to purchace a set of pace compact which i do really like, they're quiet powerful though.

What did you repair it with mate? The pace compacts really appeal to me buy would much prefer a 3lb option my first set of scopes were 3.5 and far to pokey

As it was already keyed up i applied carbon spray by brush then gently smoothed with glass paper as it didn't need much at all. You simply knock the buttcap out using heat to soften the glue, no need to remove the butt ring as i did initially as there should be the entirety of the built up section to work with poking out. The limited amount i have done with the compacts they are lovely little rods with plenty of grunt for good fish in the edge and snags etc, i have oppurtunist floater fished with size 12s and they handled that fine but it wasnt a pleasurable experience due to the test curve as you'd expect to be honest.

Same blank without the outer weave, so cheaper, cheaper guides and reel seat as well, hence why they can retail cheaper.

I can't fault my 3lb scopes apart from the wear at the telescopic bit. If I can fix that it's all good. I have used them a lot and the were second hand it's going to be the same with all telescopic rods

That's interesting, what did they say would stop their rods doing the same? I'd assume whenever you get grit in there which you always seem to it would lead to additional wearing due to the nature of the extending section

They “retail” cheaper because they haven't got a tackle shop's markup on them like the Scopes have. In the same way the Cyprinus shelters don't have Trakker “price tags” because they are not selling through shops.

Not sure why you are asking me that!? I was talking about the blanks not being the same as Scopes as that is what they told me.
I'd imagine over time and depending on use they will wear at the butt section.
I've had scopes (still have some) and I'd say these are better overall IMO.
