Hello people hope there's some of the old guard still from when I was on before
After a divorce and an unexpected but beautiful little girl about nine years ago I sold all my gear and started sea fishing more
Now I'm getting a little despondent with that I'm thinking about throwing my hat back in the ring but it's a lot of money to lay out so am slightly concerned
So to all old friends hope your doing well and to newer guys hello and bare with me if I ask silly beginner questions as it is like starting from the beginning again

I wouldn't bother if I were you. I've read most of the threads on here and it seems the majority of members either hate venues, tackle manufacturers, the actual tackle, other anglers, anything on YouTube, all other forum members and just about anyone who's ever fished, written about or been within 100 miles of any water they'd like to fish.
I'd stick to sea fishing if I were you. Welcome back

Christ that's not very encouraging but you get arses tackle tarts and pure idiots in all fishing
Sea fishing has no swims so you suffer with people plotting up next to you
Other than a bit of bait it costs nothing to sea fish so you do get some real low lifes out and about
So I would say there is good and bad in all aspects of fishing

What you would spend on carp gear,buy a little boat and stick to the seas
.I used to love fishing around Anglesey by the rocks,we used to catch some cracking wrasse and pollack.

In respect of buying kit, dont get mugged off that you need to buy the latest fads and the best rods and reels you can afford.
I still use my GT8010s and they're over 20 years old. Look on Facebook marketplace, some real bargains to be had and join some groupls on social media.
Can thoroughly recommend The Carp Crusaders Group. No idiots, no my fish is bigger than yours ******** and all round lovely people who give a lot back to society as well as angling.

Lol. I don't work for Jag. I own a plumbing & heating business. I just happen to have friends who work there and I help them out a shows when they could do with an extra body or two.
I wouldn't know decent sea fishing tackle if you whacked my round the head with it.

in response to the OP - don't feel like you need to go and spend a small fortune. My kit is basic for most places I fish and they still find themselves in the net.
think about how little you need for beachcasting and compare that to the barrow full of kit that a lot of lads think they 'need' to catch carp... keep it simple and save some quids

Although I don't believe Mal catches fish I do agree that you don't need all that crap we are supposed to need.

I couldn't disagree more. Without the best gear no one will speak to you and no self respecting carp will get caught by you. Man up and remortgage your house. It's the only way. It's no coincidence that people with customised Basias catch the most fish.

Seriously contrary to what you read the fish haven't got any cleverer in the last 9 years. There's plenty of good stuff about without the premium price tag.
Tell us what your needs are and I'm sure you'll get some good suggestions

yep - and I'd imagine there will be some gear cropping up on ebay as people will offload stuff that they can live without - that's a win / win

Thanks for all your help and encouragement guys I will need some new stuff as I wouldn't sleep in someone else's sleeping bag or bed as that's like borrowing someone's pants or kissing your sister
The other thing I may struggle after looking is rods as I prefer longer rods around the 13^ mark and not seen many on the market really

You should be able to find 13ft rods about as all the 'best' carp anglers are changing to 10ft rods because it's the latest fad.
You can set yourself up again without spending a fortune. The gear you used 10 years ago will still catch, the tactics you used will still catch and if you concentrate on finding and feeding the fish you will still catch.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy it again.

The Shimano TX series 13 footers are decent rods with a few different options depending on budget.

Welcome... back to Carpworld, me too after a spell working abroad, lots of good tackle to
be had, if anything id say the quality has improved low down... Lots more Big fish and more busy, so my main mission as many is a Good water or two and get on them waiting lists if you have a specific target..Enjoy

What's the best tackle shops now IE for having stock and good deals as I used to use Eric's but notice it's gone down

A lot of the usual suspects. Johnson Ross, tackle box, harefield tackle, browns at Leighton Buzzard. I've used them all over recent years and not had any issues. These would be my go to shops first of all.
They might not always be the cheapest, but I don't think I've ever had an order go wrong from any of these and they all seem to hold decent stock so I've not waited an age for deliveries
