Hi i have just bought some power aero, and all 3 have a distinctive knocking noise when your reeling. Now i know its the handle going into the gears as when its tight there is some slight movement( if you hold reel body and move handle you will see). this causes the knocking/tapping noise internally. Now, is this normal, ive been told it is but i just wondered what peoples experiences are? it would see odd to get 3 brand new reels that all had an 'Issue'. Also made in japan you expect any sort f quality control to be better than non japan made reels.

Just get bored easy. No perfect reel that's the problem. Always end up back with tournies. Shame you need to buy shallow spools and line clips thats all. Wouldn't cost alot for daiwa to do an original shallow spool and a proper line clip

You had the best imo with the original iso and you own the second best the castizm again in imo. I still dont know why daiwa discontinued the iso. On another note i could hit the same distance with my castizms that i could with my black mags when i had them so the castizm will wack a lead.

I was going have the new basia 19 scw until Daiwa cocked up again saying it was magsealed when it's not.Magseal might be a gimmick or a pain when comes to a service but my castizms are still as smooth as day one

That really bugs me, good reels sadly let down by a crap spool design. The clicker that doesn't click. The line behind the spool on occasion. Heard of line clips breaking, and the line guard breaking.
Apart from that they look cool 👍😁

You can get clickers from the older models for them . Its only the power aero and techs that have the weak spring apparently

No that design in its various guises has been poor since shimano changed to it, the original techs and longcasts had a completely different design with tension spring rather than torsion spring which was far superior and didn't suffer the problems this design does.

My Ci4 Big Baitrunners had the problem. When I bought a set of Power Aeros and saw the clicker was the same I sent them back and swore I'd never buy another Shimano until they changed the design.

New iso isn't as bling as old but is every bit as good, possibly better, time will tell and the basia sld is probably the best basia. Loved castizms but the emcast 25a has a better drag and doesn't look as bling, performs as well for a third of the price, shimano twin power sw is better though if price isn't an issue and comes in a range of sizes.

I've had two of the three go silent, then re tensioned the wire, and all seemed ok for a bit. I've now ordered some of the recommended clickers in the link below. I notice the tension wire is placed on the opposite side on the upgraded version.

I've used SS3000's for a bit after relegating my ISO. Thought they were perfection until I got the ISO back out the garage again to pinch some line off the spools...
OK the fast drag is annoying but the ISO are different class. If Rolls Royce built Land Rovers the ISO would be it.
Fishing tomorrow. The SS3000 went back in the garage and the ISO went back on the rods. Mind made up once and for all I reckon.

ok thanks. just fitted the new clickers, Ryan at future fishing told me how to do it and its fairly easy. the spring is clearly thicker gauge so fingers crossed they work for a while

Hopefully it'll solve the issue.
Funny how shimano users always claim they make bike gears so must do the best reels. Maybe once they master clickers, drags, line guards and handles that don't flap about when in transit it may be true

balance the metal clicker piece on the spool, stick it in place using vasaline or a similar grease
-place the spring over the top with tweezers
- stick the screw to the end of your screwdriver with grease (no not use magnet because it will move everything else out of place)
- screw tight, but not to tight

Am I spending money you have had to go to work to earn.Is me swapping and changing reels harming anyone.What I spend my money on is only one person's business,mine.I don't see how changing a part for something better to make the reel perform how it should do when shimano made it is a bad thing.The new clickers are a massive £5.99 each

Went on easy enough once got them right way round .I did it bit differently though,I put the little wire onto the metal clicker then lowered it all on with some long nose pliers then screwed it down.They are a huge improvement

Has anyone tried fitting them to a 5500 size reel yet? i tried one in one of my spools last night certainly an improvement on noise but when i go to turn spool opposite way ie to put a bit of line back on the spool, the spool goes very tight momentarily then frees off, then tight again initially when removing line again.
Its as if the actuator part is slightly too long and bottoming out on the nylon ring when spool is changing direction

Stronger wire would probably put more pressure on the pawl and wear the plastic cog on the spool out.

I measured the ones on mine the old ones were 0.3mm the new ones 0.4mm so 33% increase in wire thickness

Its not just the spring that helps as i tried the new spring with the old pointed clicker and it was no different, the clicker that comes with the spring is a different shape and profile so has more contact area with nylon gear ring.
The reels i put them on were the 5500 size and i do think the new clicker part is slightly too long for them, it will work fine until i want to turn the spool backwards to put a bit of line back on the reel then the spool goes tight which requires a bit more force to push past and the same when going back to normal. The clicker part is bottoming out in the nylon gear ring if that makes sense?

Used these yesterday for a long day session 5am till 11pm , casting to an island consistently all day after fish etc, clipping up. They got a decent first test and I'm very impressed with them. Even didnt mind the speed of the drag
As a comparison my mate has ultegra 5500 xtd and I had a go and the comparison is clear as day

I can back up that as well mate, used mine this week on a 2 night session. The upgrade is a massive improvement, a lot more positive 👍 so a nice cheap fix.

I'm out this week with mine if can get on the water I want to go.If not it will be down a smaller water with my 10fters.The feedback so far sounds positive though 👍

Also my original post about the noise seemed to disappear aswell . Maybe the tension of using them in practice helps alleviate that a bit
