Chaps been fishing for 30 years and never had this before.

I bought a cheap tx shimano spod rod as my old jrc rod got snapped in the garage door (muppet)

Ive got a Okuma x spot it fitted my last rod fine but i can't get it to go on the shimano rod, i bought another okuma recently and that doesn't fit either.

Is it Okuma reals are just large or do shimano rods just have housing for shimano reels?

Anyone else had this problem?

I've had this before with some Shimano titanos reels that wouldn't fit some 18mm reel seats, if is a old reel just sand the the foot down on either of the sides or the flat part or both if needed it probably won't take much

Not uncommon.

Lots on here will remember that the reel seat on the ESP Terry Hearn Mk2 rods struggled to house a Daiwa Tournament 5000 reel properly even though they have the same reel seat footprint as the SS3000 that Terry was using himself!!!

This is one reason why I will always take one of my reels to the shop/meet up when buying rods to make sure the reel that is going to be used on the rod fits! No seller or shop will begrudge you trying your reel first if they genuinely want to sell the rod/s!

Sounds like a file will be coming out 👍

Get an old towel and soak it in hot water then place it around the Rods reel seat.

Before doing that, have a word with a rod builder about changing the reel seat for one that does fit. Could save you a loss on the spod rod when reselling it etc.

That's strange as the MK1 Hearn reel sear fits the 5000T fine, must have changed the seat when they went to Mk2.

Changing seats is very expensive as they are an absolute nightmare to cut off and then get all the dried resins off, the whole handle needs to be re-done

Unless the rod is very dear, it's not worth it. You'd be better off getting a different rod or reel combo which does fit

The idea behind my comment was to expand the reel set. My tournies fit in a standard Fuji reel seat although initially I though they wouldn't.

Expensive? Really? Would you class £20 as expensive as that was what I was charged by a rod builder to fit a DNPS reel seat on a rod that had lost the threads in the collar. That's a lot cheaper than buying a new rod even with the cost of the reel seat (which are not a lot for a generic style reel seat. The same rod builder charged me £30 per rod including materials to fit full duplon handles to another couple of rods as well.

To get the Tourny 5000 to fit on the Mk2's I had, I literally had to tighten the collar up with a plumbers wrench & cloth around the collar. The Mk2 reel seats have little lugs inside the collar that seem to hit the rear of the reel foot which will stop the collar tightening up unless they are either removed or put under pressure to “squash/break off”.

The opposite could be found with Power Aero XTA's & the reel seat on the original Free Spirit E-Class rods. Even when tightened right up, there was movement in the seat. Simeon at Free Spirit had mine rebuilt for me with their clone seats FOC to put things right at the time instead of me getting a refund.

Well I don't know how they are doing it and don't want to imagine

(but rest assured ''not very nicely'' is fully guaranteed at just £20 for labour plus parts)

The rod was only £60 i might just stick a old bait runner on it thats fits and use it for a marker rod
