Two banksticks will do the job, you DON'T NEED to spend money on distance sticks, the choice is yours, or you could even make some.

Being as tight a duck's rear end, I used 2 rod rests for quite a while. Finally got fed up of the line catching on the collar of the rest (make sure the locking nuts face each other otherwise that causes a lot more problems) and bit the bullet and bought a set of "proper" jobs. Got to admit it is far easier and wished I done it earlier.

Echo. I've struggled with 2 bank sticks for a long time, also being tight!! Braid is a flipping nightmare and something always gets snagged. I've got some proper ones now (be it NGT), wish I'd done it before.

The fox ones are £10.00 and work as well as any others

As mentioned Banksticks do the job but your line will get caught on the collar. The made for the purpose ones allow you to wind the line off the sticks without getting caught up. They're cheap as chips and we'll worth it. I have the cygnet ones.

Hi. Made my sticks out of two old Titan ribs. Painted and treated to a clear hard coat. 3 years of solid use and they're only scuffed on the bottoms.
I rubbed down and painted some old cricket stumps a I had lying around, the kids ones as they're smaller and thinner. Work perfect.

I plant two trees exactly 12 feet In every swim I fish. They'll be perfect in a few years and it saves me buying a new set of sticks.

I used to take loads with me, then I hit on a much better idea. I simply now have enough for each swim delivered to the lake at the start of the season. Then if I move swims I simply pop back to the car park and chuck a couple on the barrow. Anyone who spends loads on distance sticks when they could use my simple method must be crazy.

Silly me never thought of that, thanks for all your help! Spotted the fault tho with this method......still need to measure the trees in case some joker replants one a foot shorter or longer, actually it's a crap idea as in thirty years time the trees would be too tall so you may need a ladder to reach behind them.

I used to use bank sticks but found a set of fox distance markers set up in a swim. Such a nice colour

True, but the Banksticks you're cutting up cost more then distance sticks, so why not just buy distance sticks in the first place?

Your not kidding, I've had mine 14 years, living happily on the kitchen widows sill, missus wants me to bin it as its blocks the light coming into the kitchen....I wouldn't mind but she bought if for me

You could argue that lots of things could 'do the job' of fishing tackle but some people (myself included) like buying tackle for various reasons.
I paid £10 for a set of Cygnet ones and they do the job just fine for me. My mate spent £55 on the Korda ones and they do the job just as fine for him.
Technically we don't need £150 buzzers, £200 rods, £650 reels, £300 brollies, £800 bivvies.......but if you enjoy fishing, have some disposable income and either an understanding wife or a 'safe' delivery address then get what you want.
The only issues using banksticks is the thumbwheel etc at the top most likley catching the line....instead you could be really carpy and just whittle two sticks down with an old swiss army knife and stick them in the ground
