Can anyone help me,
I'm trying to find some information about the old Geoff kemp carp rods,
I'm having a decision on Twitter about them, but at the moment, no one knows about them,
I know he done them, as I a old mate had a set, and even saw them,
But can't find anything on them,
Any help would be grateful,
As I 100% he done rods, and make sure I'm not losing the plot

There is an advert in an old carp fisher mag I have, memory being what it is think they were 11' and 1.5tc.

That's what I remember, 11ft but thought maybe 1-3/4 ? but maybe 1-1/2
I do remember a couple of companies copying the rod design ?
What I remember, is not being able to find a set, so I ended up getting the Bruce and Walker 11ft 26oz rods for smaller waters, and close in fishing
And tricast 12 ft 2-1/4 mr rods for mid to long range

including someone who printed Geoff's bait Brochures back in the day, not knowing about them,

They were advertised in the CAA Book, 1984. There was a range of three rods. 11 ft x 1.5 lb TC. 11.5 ft x 1.75 lb TC. 12 ft x 2 lb TC. Duplon handle, FPS reel seat, Fuji rings.

I could be wrong but I think they were built by Vic Gillings and sold out of a few selected London tackle shops. I bought mine from Penge Angling. IIRC they were 2lb test and 12' long. I used them in the mid-80s on the local ressies. I have no idea why I sold them as they were lovely rods and a pleasure to fish with. The rod on the right in this shot is one of my pair. The other rod is a Simpson's of Turnford-built 1.75lb test Sportex that my missus used.

Yes, Colne Valley angling,
It was quite good in there at the start, but didn't last too long
Harefield tackle was just too strong for them, and much more variety, course fishing,match fishing, and carp and specimen fishing,
Plus a good range of baits and ingredients and such,

I met a chap on wicks mere a few years ago that had a set of 11 ½ ft 1¾ t.c or something like that, lovely smooth matt finish and full duplons with front flares, these were his only rods owned since new used on some pretty epic waters etc anyway he literally bent them pretty much tip to butt, i was gobsmacked!

I had a set of the 1.75lb rods, they were built by Graeme of Dymag fame.
the old penge angling shop at Rayleigh weir sold them,when dave potter run it..am I correct they had green whippings ?

yes was a great little shop, very knowledgeable guy dave was.helped me and my mates a lot..remember dave telling us about Kev Ellis's big casein fish..the building is still there..sadly not a tackle shop anymore..

I think this was the original Penge Angling shop run by a very tall ginge called Mike Davis.

It was mate, i used to fish doggets in the days before it was properly taken over and my first job was working for nashy 28 years ago when he was at Brook road in Rayleigh, anyway I'd done a work overnighter and caught my first 20 which was a well known fish locally (nicked from aquatels i believe) and nashy came out and congratulated me with a message from Dave Potter who'd informed him of the capture, he said a bigger one jumped on the otherside of swan island, you couldn't get anything past Dave lol! Sorry to the op I've gone off track.

It is a shame, not many traditional shops left around here now. i think the best thing about penge apart from Dave and Martin was the incredible smell you used to get from the flavours as soon as you went in, it always smelt like a sweet shop. i couldn't afford much of what they sold but i spent a lot of time browsing in there and Dave was always happy to impart wisdom and suffer the barrage of questions i always had for him! I think the word patient springs to mind haha!

This thread brings back a few memorys. A mate of mine built his own set from blanks acquired.. cough.... when he worked for Penge angling on the Croydon rd. 11. 1/2 ft 1. 3/4lb test Conoflex blanks from memory. The rods battle curve seemed to go on forever.
