Is it worth giving my bivvy a wipe over with Fabsil it's a Trakker Tempest no it doesn't leak or have any faults I'm just trying to make it last a bit longer

It's always worth taking care of your gear, even though it's more Carpy to say how much you abuse it! My brolly system was looking a bit tired last year, it wasn't leaking but was getting heavy and taking a long time to dry off due to mud and spod spill. Just adding a proofer over the top of mud won't do it any favours, first clean it with Fabsil Universal Cleaner and let it dry off first - here. Then add the waterproofer on after and let that dry. Now after a downpour, I just give it a couple of shakes and the water flings off.

NO pointless waste of money just give it a good clean with lots of plain warm water 90% chance it will restore the beading properties its normally just mud and dirt that makes it wet out rather than bead

exactly this, ive used it and its not as good as some say, but a good old scrub in and out of the bivvy with washing up liquid, did better

Any detergent is worst thing you could use on a bivvy. Will lose any breathability. Just use water or a specialist cleaner.

As others have said a specialist cleaner will do a far better job than fabsil and will make it look smart again

Never ever use detergent as it will ruin it........................ use PURE soap liquid or flakes (Wilko) and rinse well with warm water
but just using good clean plain warm water works or its really bad bird **** etc
then Grangers universal cleaner will restore it no need to reproof it

some years ago I purchased a ' specialist' seam waterproofer .........about £12
What turned up ...........???
A 50g sachet of pva ! ! ! to be painted over seams on the inside.
Won't get caught like that again....... used my own pva
I think the fabsil is more designed to create the droplet effect and allow water to run off as opposed to gap filling.

I used to re treat my old nash profile every year until one year all of the taped seams came off.... same thing happened to my sons which I did at the same time. I was unsure as to whether it was the solvent in the product to blame or the quality of the the seams. this was 20 years ago.
I have never re proofed anything since and tbh have never needed to. (my treatment of the brolly was a throw back to the old closed season.)
surely modern fabrics are in themselves waterproof and should not need re treating.

I have always cleaned my brolly and bivvy every year about this time. It's something that goes back to the time of the close season. I treat with fabsil every few years or so. Still have my original profile and it doesn't leak what an awesome product it was. Tend to use the tempest brolly for 90% of my fishing now.
Is it safe to use an all purpose cleaner from my car cleaning gear on a Tempest V1 before reproofing it?

I would not chance it in case it has detergent or something else that will stop the reproofing from taking

I have a Nash Outlaw Bivvy, the tape came off the seams without any help anyway.
With a few bivvies in the past when I bought them I got a tube of seam sealant, it is just PVA glue, which I used to have anyway in my wood working kit, so when they started to leak I would give them a 'splurge and finger' along the seam.
I do use my bivvy quite a bit, it loses colour over time, and occasionally gets splattered with spod mix and bird poo. I scrape the worst of the bird poo, and use a soft shoe brush and water to wash it down.
If I need to reproof it, I use Fabsil brushed or sponged on.

Ive never cleaned nor reproofed a bivvy or brolley ever.... yes I do look after my stuff and by current bivvy is over 5 years old... I will reproof them if they start leaking .... do some just reproof as a matter of course rather than because its needed.....

I use the breathable water based nik wax...don't get any problems with seams..its good for a season..
Used fabsil once and the seams started coming unstuck!

I do put my gear through a lot, and seem to get some rough weather. It probably doesn't help that sometimes I don't get the chance to dry my gear between trips, it goes away wet and comes out damp and smelly.
As a result I do reproof my bivvy as it needs it.

I've always cleaned mine with hot water giving it a good wash over with a rag getting any tree sap off and dirt and dust once dry..i use WD40. I spray it onto a clean cloth and just wipe over then spray the seams straight from the can and wipe over like you are waxing a car... Job done water Flys off and it will dry in no time at all.
