I was searching for some replacement felt drag washers without much luck aside from ebay, but found tons of suppliers for carbon ones, and numerous articles saying felt is crap and carbon is great.
My question is, is there another material that will give the greater graduation of felt but with the smoothness and longevity of carbon?
Silicon perhaps?

I think some people use ptfe washers. You can always have a mix of carbon and felt in your spools.

I've used Ptfe washers to speed drags up slightly , I'll use them in combination with felt washers to get the drag speed I require , to duggs...depends how slow or fast you want really

Can you not get any felt washers from daiwa, the ones out of a tourny will probably fit yours, i and a lot of others have been using felt washers in the same reels for many years now, i have xt techs and emblem z's which are both well over 15 years old with the original felt washers they seem to last ok for me.
As andy says ptfe washers are usually used to speed drags up, so would be of little use to you.

I'm sure I could get some from daiwa, it's just a bit more long winded than Google-click-buy now
I can't say felt washers have ever let me down, I'm just intrigued by a few articles (obviously selling carbon washers) speaking of melted or compressed felt and wondered if there is an upgrade available for those of us who want more than a quarter turn of adjustment

Roy's Carbontex Washers on FB and ebay are reasonably priced. You could buy a single set and try them on one reel?

Why would he want graphite washers? They speed the drag up, not slow it down due to their lack of compression.

I'll probably Rob the washers from my entohs/emblem spod to tune the 45s to my taste, I don't need a drag on the spod and carbon drags may increase the value of the entohs if I sell them. It seems felt is the best option.
I'll have to get some grease first, the felt is dry as fook

Just looking for a bit of advice guys.
Iv just purchased some carbon washers from roys carbontex for my weston tournie shallow spools and I just cant get the hexagonal pin back in to lock it all back into place.
Is there anyone who has had the same issue and how to resolve it.

do you mean that the locking spring wont go far enough down into the recess? its possible that the washers are too thick, or you have accidentally left an extra one in , or is it possible you have the two washers with the little locating legs on going into same slots?

From memory there are 2 thicknesses, 0.5 and 1mm. I have the thinner carbontex and they are superb

I bought some tournies with Weston spools and caps. Drag was shocking and way too quick. Binned all plastic washers and replaced with felt from old Daiwa spools. Much better than it was but still not as good as it could be. A lot less 1980 mitchell though.

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination
But surely mixing the carbon/plastic or whatever medium they decide to use the. Mixing it with the original felt washers could/should make the perfect balance ?

Already checked that buddy. It just shows the spool assembly p/no, not the individual p/no's for the assembly components. But cheers anyway

Not sure if daiwa are open at the moment with the lockdown issues but i have found them very helpful when i have contacted them in the past, i haven't had ss3000's but have had 5000 tournys im sure the felt washers are the same as the ones that in my emblem z's and spod reel so should be an easy to source washer

If daiwa sports are open on monday morning might be worth giving them a call, a while back i was after some of the spool shims for and emblem so phoned them asked for the parts department and the girl that answered was very helpful told me the part numbers etc let me pay over the phone and quickly sent them to me
