Can someone recommend a decent set of scales,only really need to weigh up to 40lb.I don't want digitals

I also have the Reuben Flyweights in my barbel rucksack. Nice compact little scales which you'd hope to be accurate coming from Reuben Heaton. Only complaint is that I find the zero'ing dial easy to knock with it being on rear, so not always a case of setting it to your damp sling and leaving it as is, regular checks required!
I caught a few barbel on a session on the trent last year and there were two successive captures in particular, weighed the first one and it was 11.10 but thought it looked bigger. Caught another soon after and weighed as a high 8. I swore it was also a double. After I'd released the smaller of the two I hung the sling on the scales and they were weighing over 2lb light! So the 11.10 was probably nearer 14 and the 8 was definitely a double!! Since then I pretty much check each and every time, although that's often fiddly work on a dodgy river bank

I found the same, in my case it was a certain 2lb roach weighing 1lb4oz, an obvious mistake so I was able to rectify it quickly. always deduct the sling after now.

The problem with those scales (very similar to my old Avon scales), is getting an accurate reading as the needle tends to wiggle about unless you are He-man. I'd recommend these

they are digital though Dave ? he has said he doesn't want digital scales
or I would have recommended the scales I use for my Barbel fishing I use a Wychwood T-bar Digital Scales MKI 2 I love em and the shape fits in my rod bag but as Jeff has said no Digital

Its bloody hard to get a set of scales !!! I was told by a couple of people that digital scales are far less accurate thats why i did,nt want them ? Absolutely loved my avons but they have gone so maybe digital is the way to go ?

I have the Wychwood digitals that Gerry mentions below in my carp bag, but the arse ache with these is that you cannot zero them and leave them zero'd, you have to zero them each and every time, with the sling on, and then transfer the fish from mat to sling and hook up to the digital scales. I find it all a bit of a faff unless i'm using a weigh tripod, which to be fair is very rare unless I'm doing a week in France etc.
I could be doing it all wrong of course but haven't found a get around. Life was much easier with my old Reuben 60lb dial scales

use exactly the same procedure as when you use dial scales ? if your finding it harder
but personally I dont find it hard ? MOSTLY I weigh my sling as would be normally (wet) then just deduct the weight off ( I am not fussy over ounces) nearest LB is fine
unless its a special fish maybe a PB then I get fussy but its not often lol
And Jeff I would dispute what you have been told as its cobblers ! at least 1 record fish was weighed on Fox digital scales and when the scales were submitted for testing they were found to be 100% accurate
in my case I have a set of of Rubins that were serviced from them I then set up my tripod in my garden I then got a 25 litre water container that holds around 55lbs of water
I slowly filled it checking the weights from 1lb thru to 50lb on first the new Rubin spec scales and the Wychwood T-Bar scales BOTH READ IDENTICAL WEIGHTS ! proving the digital scales were accurate

some people have said dont like the shape as its a built in handle they say its hard to transport ????
but I love it as it fits in my rod bag or chair or bedchair or cradle the only thing I didnt like was the carabiner clip
so I took it off and replaced it with an S hook that I find a lot easier you may find this long term review interesting as it backs up what I said about the accuracy I dont know where I saw it ? but there is a video where they are all using these scales in a competition ?

I tested my fox digi scales (latest version) at work with proper calibrated weights like they would use if you sent them off to be checked by the brfc if you caught a record fish and the were bang on to the ounce all the way up to 60lb, very impressed. Ive also got a set of rueben flyweights and they are pretty crap if im honest, they are miles out on accuracy and feel very cheap but the are so thats probably why.

I'm not a bit surprised,to learn of that..
I actually phoned them up,but got ,not a lot of help,sent em back ,bought a set of the compact Korums instead,these are good,cept so compact I keep mislaying them

Yes very straight forward to use,...zero the scales by pushing the button ,little red light starts flashing,...
I believe them to be accurate, I use them for Perch mainly , have used them for carp but I don't always weigh carp much ,I'm not dismissive or anything,it's just the way I have gone,...catch ,admire,return...!

I prefer not to waff imo, if I can be bothered to weigh a fish.. I have fish in weigh sling zero scales weigh put fish back weigh sling again (they are 1/2lb) when wet. Deduct from original weight of fish and weigh sling.

I like my Avon's used them for years however I use a set of luggage weigh scales they do the job fine.

A second head Kenwood Waymaster is also a good bet. Same company as Heaton, much cheaper but equally accurate.
