Will be hard going this time of year mate fish single hi viz pop ups or small pva bags look for signs of fish n cast to them hope ya get a few bud let us know how ya get on

A1 was thought of in better terms when it had a lot more stock in all the pits but unfortunately all 6 lakes lost a lot to floods a few yrs back now including s9me bloody big uns!

Some of the fish that are in the pits are lookers nice dark scaley ones too Mid weeks a bit quieter worth fishing imo

Dont really know. I live on Anglesey new to Carp fishing and heard someone somewhere mention them. I am open to suggestions on places to visit.

New lakes opening close by will put pressure on numbers at the pits. They have had a restocking since the floods and these are growing on nice. Does it need a few more quality fish yes it does. I would add around 100 extra fish to pit 5 and 6 stock them at low to mid doubles would be 20s within few years. Some will say theres enough in there but it's a business and customers will drift to other lakes. The lakes themselves are stunning and Steve does a brilliant job. With the correct stocking levels pit 5 could be one of the best lakes in the north.

Even thou he video in the summer. There a very good video by a guy on the pits on YouTube. Called. Waiting for the weekend is his channel called Some great tips in there and catches some really nice carp

I fish A1 quite a lot.
Pit 1- Although quite small has done a 30lb common this year,and gets overlooked a lot, quite uniform with a few bars a shelfs. Possibly the second best pit for a quick bite.
Pit 2 - Again not much bigger than Pit 1, holds quite a few big bream as well as some nice carp, quite uneven bottom lots of shelves,holes and very deep margins.
Pit 3 - This would be my first choice for a quick bite on a day session, nice and uniform,good depth to the margins with plenty of cover,
the bank that divides pit 2 and 3 would be my starting point, 30 to 40 yds out max, they go absolutely mental for cell boilies on this pit, in the past ive put about 60 18mm out to start, then catapult 30 to 40 10mm out every 30 mins,takes about 3 hours but they will turn up.
Pit 4 - For some reason this is my least favourite of all the pits,only ever caught on zigs,the bottom is all over the show,the bream are huge 17lb +,
Not a lot of room if a group fish the A1 side where the point is.
Pit 5 - quite a big pit that gets a huge amount of pressure,the walkway that divides pit 4/5 has gravel bars at 60 85 110 135 yds out,
The road side pegs can get right on the end of all the bars,plus these pegs contain quite a bit of clay and gravel about 50 to 60 yds out.
The bank that divides pit 5/6 has gravel bars around 35 60 90 yds out
The train track side comands the most water, if the fish push right out these are the pegs to be on, the bars dont really effect you as your fishing parallel to them.
Never overlook the margins on this pit,with all the pressure of people trying to hit the gravel bars the fish can be under your feet and not that hard to catch.
Pit 6 - big,windy ,deep, loads of features,gets a lot of attention from long stay anglers, some huge fish but possibly not the best for a day session, unless you find them in one of the corners and have a bag of floaters on you.

The stock in the whole area changed massively and some fish were being liberated from the trent and relocated all over the borough,it became a little heated and an eye for an eye mentality developed,some syndicates in the area lost out some didnt.
Bert and Ernie still live in the river behind the pits and both fish go over 35 Bert came out this winter to a lad who was barbell fishing mussels and went back..

Hey mate, you fished it much lately? Possibly coming down friday if we carnt get on bluebell due to the masses. Not fished the pits for afew years now but need to get back down there and catch some of these stunning carp in them.

First time fishing it this weekend. Just an overnighter. No bait boats allowed on all lakes. I can understand that for pits 1-4.
Pita 5 & 6
no chance of getting out to the middle where the fish seemed to push out to.
The calibre of anglers were like stepping into a scene from Shameless, using quiver rods etc. I'm sure there were travellers on pit 6 living down there. Fair to say it's not a venue for me and I won't be back given all the other great venues around. Such a shame as it could be a great complex.

What utter crap. The pits are a first class fishery. There is no gypsy camp there at all. Think your post started with what your main gripe is. NO BAIT BOATS.

Its been a fair few years since i fished it but was a bit wild back in the day... ive seen a full on party with disco lights between 2&3 on the A1 side.
I was once on when some angler managed to drive his car into the lake - he had a fish and wanted to use the headlights to get a better lit picture. Had to get the bulldozer to drag it out... cant remember the bailiff's name but he was ready to kill him
Lad was gutted as well because it was a company car

I used to fish pit 6 in the early 2000s, my dad used to drop me off for the week aged 15, and I saw some sights I can tell you that. I could tell some stories about that place 
I fished it 30 years ago and it was a very dodgy venue. They even employed a night bailiff who drove around making sure the anglers were safe! Most of the trouble was from people parking on the A1, running down and stealing fishermen's gear. Nothing like that now although I would not leave my gear alone like I might in other venues. The only problem now is the number of rats unless the new owners have managed to resolve the issue. Just a few years ago it was not uncommon to have 30-40 rats in front of you as dusk approached - not for me!

If you class that place as a first class fishery then we both have very different standards. And that's okay. You enjoy it pal. But it's not for me. I'm glad I scratched that itch though.
And as for utter crap, I saw quiver rods being used. They were bowed in the middle as it rested on the bank stick at the front and a bucket at the back
the guys around me were just getting boxed of their faces, high as kites. Rods laid on the ground overnight cos they couldn't be bothered to reset them and cast back out.

I actually fish secure waters that are invite only. Very select and strict. I have fished the pits over 35 years and its a place I would gladly go back. Carp to 40 Bream to 17lb tench 14lb and the river has done a few massive barbel. I agree a few years ago it did have the argos anglers there. But that was a while ago and think they are priced out now. The lakes have 2 first class baliffs who are firm and also getting the farmers to pay for quality ajs stock fish and why not the place is a gold mine.
