I was looking to upgrade my current reels (Daiwa Windcast BR LD)that seem a bit heavy for my rods (3lb Freespirit CTX).Did have my heart set on Shimano medium baitrunners Ci4 but after reading about the problems with the bail arms and the spool clickers have started looking at Daiwa again. Was just wondering what your thoughts and experiences of these reels are??

Daiwa Emblem 45 SCW QD
Daiwa Emblem 35 SCW 5000C QD
Or any others I should look at but not Fox or Nash

Ci4s are brilliant reels don't dismiss them. Try have a feel of them all if possible.
Emblem 45 does looks a nice reel.

Whilst I can't comment on the emblems I went from the shimano medium baitrunners to the cast'izm - much nicer reel in my opinion, although the drag is very fast and takes some getting used to.
I also have some emcast 25a - very close to the cast'izm (with a slower drag which suits me better) but at less than half of the price, definately worth a look I'd say.
Whilst I can't comment on the emblems I went from the shimano medium baitrunners to the cast'izm - much nicer reel in my opinion, although the drag is very fast and takes some getting used to.
I also have some emcast 25a - very close to the cast'izm (with a slower drag which suits me better) but at less than half of the price, definately worth a look I'd say.

Do like the Shimano reels but with the problems they are having currently, not sure if I want to pay £500 for a set of 3 and have to continuously tinker with them to work correctly!! Any thoughts on the castizm br25a??

Personally if I where In the market for a new set of reels I'd contact a Reel service gent such as Garry (custom reels) because he knows the products inside and out.
I have a set of original Daiwa ISOs regraded as the best reels that Daiwa have every produced by many reviews from forums as trade accounts.
I also have a set of tournies which are superb robust and have many good qualities about them highly recommend by suppliers users and service agents.
My third set at present are a set of Linear Xs which are as good as the ISOs in many ways just not as good however the internal build quality is shocking.
My Emblem Spod Reels have been excellent although a tad rough, need a service imo.
emblem golds which I have had a set for a decade are superb and continue to do the job.
My Shimanos that are 20 years old have been good, they have faults many if not all have.
All reels are knocked together by the manufacture they can be greatly improved by a decent service, so get asset do reels and have them serviced. It does make a massive difference.

I have the old Daiwa baitrunners, they are massive and really heavy..
If there is one reel that stands out, I want to get some, although it seems the best ones are the ones they don't make anymore..

I was a big Penn Affinity fan, had them for about 4/5 years without fault. Then last night the foot that mounts to the reel seat snapped. Never had that happen before with a reel!

I had that on an old shimmy baitrunner years ago,. It does happen, usually down to user fault somewhere along the line. It's very easy to knock reels in a holdall etc without realising

The 2 and 3 model both have a hollow machined out where the body and stem meet. It was solid on the mk1 version and just that change has put me off, even if internally they're the same. Change for the sake of if, maybe by about mk7 they'll revert to the original design

There is definitely something not right with how the body is manufactured if the foot snaps in half!
I cant see at what angle you could hit the reel in a seat in a holdall so that the foot of the reel would snap and the rest of the reel, the reel seat and the rod would be unmarked.
The rods are Aviators with Fuji seats and these were Affinity 2 Ltd

I've got the Emblem 35 SCW 5000 QD.
Can't speak highly enough of them for the price.

Can't say that I search for reels with broken feet on eBay often, so I wouldn't know.

I don't search for them either ,but lots come up when looking for something generic like "big pit reel" or suchlike. Reels don't just break, they get broken
