You may be right but an outfield player wouldn't, so why should a goalkeeper?
Also what if a goalkeeper catches the ball inside the box but accidently slides on a wet pitch out of the box, a sending off would be harsh. Not even a yellow in my book, just a free kick to the opposition
Another scenario, in the last dying seconds the goalkeeper goes up to the other end of the pitch for the last corner of the game. He jumps to head the ball but it hits his hand.
Should he be sent off?
As I say it's all subjective and open to interpretation.

I always thought if the keeper handled outside the box they was off but, obviously not the case.
Would have spoiled the game if he had gone IMO.
