Just in the process of trying to upgrade the line clips on my infinity's but really struggling.
Used a dremel to remove the old line clip and the rivet that held it in place, which has gone fine but when I try I to put the new one in I can't for the life in me hold the spring back and put the clip on to hold it in place!
Is there a trick to this? Been trying for the last hour and no joy.
Using the clips from custom reel king if that helps.

Yes it is tricky but this tip from TopgunAdams helped me
A tip when fitting the line clips, I made a small tool that makes the job a lot simpler. Get a piece of spring metal or plastic say about 2" in length by 1" wide 1mm thickness, cut a slot in the centre of the bottom section approx. 2 mm in width, (this will allow the line clip to go through this tool) allowing you to compress the spring back and give you easy access to fitting the retaining clip in the recess. Job done. Compressing the spring is the hard bit, but this makes it a whole lot simpler and easier.

I couldn't do my tournaments due to old hands
I took mine to the local clock clinic, when I picked them up I noticed the clip was not sitting as it should, the hole that the clip goes through had to be filed just a little to allow it to sit correct, it may be worth checking that out before you finish it then haveing to do it all again, Bob (Tinhead) knows more, he may agree or not, good luck

The ones I got say no filing is needed - just to remove the existing clip.
I'm hoping the credit card trick works, for my sanity more than anything.

I tried putting tape round the spool to hold the clip in place
didn't work, BUT, and I have just thought of this, do you think a couple of clothes pegs either side of the clip with a bit of credit card under them would hold it till the spring and clip goes on

I tries do do mine a few weeks ago, bought a set of 3 line clips, and managed to loose 2 springs and managed to get 1 done.... I'm gonna leave the other 2 until i get them serviced and ask them to do them for me....absolute ball ache....plus it cost me 15 quid to replace the wife eyebrow tweezers as i ****ed the one i was using to hold the clip....i did try to say it wasn't me, but i forgot to clean the reel grease off them before i put them away

Success - thanks for the tip TinHead.
Still a nightmare but used the hole in the credit card trick, slid the retaining clip down the card, used needle nose pliers to close and then cut the card away.
Great tip, two more to go now....

I just use needle nose pliers for this. I do the work in a big carboard box placed on its side to catch the spring that will inevitably shoot off at some point.

I upgraded line clips on my daiwa emblem X reels and a daiwa infinity reel.
A bit tricky and fiddly...
Well worth tying a long loop of cotton to one end of the spring so its retained when (not if) it tries to leave the country.
The way to do it is use long nosed pliers and do not hold the little circlip at either side (at 90°) but hold about 1mm of it dead centre with the pliers pinching from either side (so the pliers are in line with the clip stem).
Compress the spring and then slide the circlip on to the back end of the line clip.
If the line clips decides to leave the party early then its already on a retainer.
I also noticed that the recess for the daiwa line clips is machine cut and the edges are slightly edgier than i would have liked so i took some time to file them down and just round off the squareness of the cut away section.
It now feels very slightly rounded and smooth to the touch.
