Have a read of the green energy wire article on electric vehicles by a respected group of German engineers ( VDI.)
Basically they say just having an electric vehicle only policy can be counter productive for the environment.
As I've said in the past we should be investing more research into hydrogen and synthetic fuels amongst other things, rather than just electric battery vehicles which is basically a cheap quick fix with substantial environmental production costs.
I would take any VW claim with a pinch of salt, after all they have bit of a history on environmental issues.
Planting or protecting a tree does not make production cleaner, it just counteracts it so they can say they are being green. In effect they are buying carbon credits for publicity.
Just to be clear I'm not against battery electric cars, it's just there is so much exaggeration and half truths about them being so environmentally friendly.

Well it's fact I'm afraid.

I use standard supermarket diesel and then top it up with archoil DMax additive......cheaper than buying premium diesel from the shell / BP.......my 2.0 insignia is averaging 53mpg over 31000 miles.......

You need to work the engine enough to burn off all the fuel, under revving doesnt do this because not enough heat is generated and the unburnt fuel causes deposits within the engine causing blockages, and in turn reduction in power. This is with all engines, but even moreso with modern diesels fitted with dpf.

It is quite literally just your opinion of something you suspect happened. Its not even possible to know exactly how that person drove or treated their car. Especially compared to how I drive. And the way described in the newspaper. Which also comes from so called experts.

I actually looked at a Hydrogen vehicle, nearest place to refuel is the midlands and I live in the southwest.

Oooh ive not been on here much but here's my tuppence worth.
VW claiming carbon neutral.........wel lets look at there history of supplying data on MPG and how much their diesel cars produced on exhausts and measuring defeating technology...... mmm
All car manufacturers are the same they want you to buy new cars that's it, they don't care about environment, mpg/miles per charge they just want you to buy new cars.
Rather than building new cars why not invent conversions for older cars which saves them being sold/discarded/crushed. No lets recycle a small percentage of an old car to put in a brand new car which by planting a few trees they have managed to interpret data in the way they want and will look good for them.
I have attended many driving courses and probably drive my car harder than a greater majority of people. Planning ahead and looking further ahead allows for less harsh acceleration and braking. My MPG is no less than my families MPG. My brother and I have roughly the same MPG in the same vehicles but i get there faster and smoother than him and my wife prefers to drive with me than him. She's not shy of speaking the truth and would tell me if i drive like a knob

It's not opinion. It's fact. You're (poor) advice is the opinion part. I saw it plenty of times, and speaking with the lads who currently repair my company's fleet of vans it still happens a lot. It's also one thing which you are taught whilst doing the professional qualifications to be a technician. Are you really saying professional qualified people know less about the workings of a combustion engine than some guy with a driving licence? Give your head a wobble and stop giving out "advice" which could potentially cost people thousands of pounds in repair bills

At the top of a hill. Come off the accelerator.
You can always go back on it.
If you are regular going from accelerator to brake you aren't
