I experienced a similar loss after 12 years with my beloved dog. I didn't know at the time that there were organisations that dealt with the registration of working dogs. Later on their website I came across the definition of validity of the ESA. I decided to ask them if there were any emotional support dogs. They are given such a title because of their psychological development. If you are interested, PM me, I can tell you more about how I found such a pet that aims to calm people down.

We lost our little man to the same, 8 years old. I had to have him put to sleep, devastated, big part of the family, a black pug, proper character, he enriched all of our life's, still miss him, always will. Happy memories though

I didn't want another, my missus and my daughter did. Few months later we bought a fawn one this time, couldn't replace the black one. Absolutely mad as box of frogs, brings a whole new meaning to the term “barking mad” crackers

I lost my last dog Millie a Cairn Terrier during the first lockdown. She ended up being put down on my lap outside the vets in a gazebo type affair as entering the premises wasn't allowed. I had that awful walk home with a collar and lead in my pocket. I went in the pub for a stiff drink - big mistake. She was well known in there and everyone I met said “where's the dog today?”

We went everywhere together.






I said I couldn't face getting another. However I found it really strange at home. If I was chopping up something in the kitchen and a bit dropped on the floor I would automatically step to the side to let the non existent dog have first dibs at eating it. Doors previously wedged open to let the dog wander were now closed. It came to a head when out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw the dog by where her bowl used to be - it was a straw basket I thought enough, that's it- we need another dog. I convinced the missus and said she could pick the breed and name in an attempt to get her onside as she didn't want to go through the heartbreak again at some date.

So 8 months after losing my sidekick I was holding a 10 week old puppy at the breeders, feeling the usual guilt at separating her from her parents and siblings and telling myself I would give her the best life possible.
She's a new addition, not a replacement as nothing could replace Millie.

My one and only dog was a Cairn Terrier,there is noway in hell I could of took him fishing.He was a real character he chased everything and loved water,I have always said I will have another dog.My wife is a childminder and works from home and I worry incase a puppy nipped one of the children.If my wife every changes her job then i might be tempted.Hope everything is ok Tazi

I agree though, as long as you can look in the mirror and know you have given your dog the best life you possibly can, that's all you can do, enjoy the moments!

Sorry to hear this and I too dread the day when that day comes.

Dogs are amazing and fortunately for all of and your current pet will be given a lovely loving home. Dogs are absolutely brilliant and deserving of all the love that they get. I absolutely do not get how anyone could hurt them and they make me sick.

Here's to a long life for your pooch mate.

Edit - Get treatment for lungworm from your vets as it is on the rise and has being known to kill within hours if not treated in time.

My dog is battling on mate. Scarred lungs from the lungworm that she had which has left her coughing.

So, so pleased that when I get up in the morning she wants to go for a walk and long may that continue.

Edit - from my first post when I thought that this could be the end I noticed that she had shaken her ears and after checking her over they were red inside so after cleaning them and applying drops thankfully she later perked up.

As for the gear, the Hi S's have gone, I preferred my Vertex's. The Solar Carbon (effect!!) was a pile of crap so went. I loved the RX Digitals but before the likes of Kudos, Daletronics etc and Fox discontinuing them I decided to get rid. Not quite got the Tart out of my system because now got a set of fully converted, radio remote, underlit wheel stainless Nash/ Nev's

The Tech 10000XT's though, sold due to spares being no longer available even though they were mint, I still feel like sticking razor blades in my eyes. Totally stupidity

Hi Tazi,

She is on a full PetPlan with the local vets. For the outlay we get full treatments and checkups throughout the year including lungworm treatment ( quite prevalent in West Wales) spaying - due next month although we are paying extra to have keyhole surgery, much less invasive and quick recovery.

Being as she has fur rather than hair she doesn't shed or moult so every morning my wife lets her upstairs to wake me up, so my day starts with her waking me up and ends with me putting her in her cage ( she is cage trained and sees it as her own safe space so goes in willingly). Take into account we walk daily and she takes me to the pub on Wednesdays and Fridays and we go fishing together for a week at a time. Our life's are really intertwined. The missus has said she is jealous

The old techs were nice solid reels, bullet proof, never owned a set myself but a mate did, used infinity's for years then went through several and now still using some Shimano power aero XTA, love them

I also had a carbon worldwide for a couple of months lol. The wire went on my RX, second set, had analogue then digitals, superb alarms other than that. Stil running some digital STRs myself, and flogged my 3rd set of HiS rods!

Enjoy the fishing and boating with your new pal mate, the weather is coming good too

I'm almost in tears reading all these lovely/sad posts,
I have had 4 German shepherds over the years, the grief
it brings when you have to say goodbye, I cam't handle
that, it brings too much sorrow, but I do have a great
relationship with Barney (half poodle half hienz 57)
a friends dog, time may heal but you never forget.

So sad and yet so rewarding during and after the hurt begins to subside a little. In the meantime it's 3100dy tough.

RIP all of those lovely lovely dogs, animals etc etc.
