Even if we only focus on England/ the UK I think it's fair to say this assessment has a fairly narrow viewpoint.
During the two years of plague over 50% of the UK population died.
I don't think living through the 100 Years War was supposed to be that great for the English working man, same goes for the English Civil War.

The UK median wage is about £40K a year. Less than 1% of Chinese people earn a salary that is equal to this.

I have been to China. Like many developed countries it is a place of extremes. The areas of modern infrastructure are fantastic. Working in a factory recycling toxic metals for pennies is probably less fantastic.
I wouldn't be able to access this forum legally in China. That could be interpreted as less progressive than the UK.
I'm not arguing good or bad, left or right. None of my posts have. I'm just trying to give context through a wider lens.
