Hi everyone,
Thought it was about time I properly introduced myself to the forum.
I’m Ryan, a lifelong, dedicated carp angler based down in West Cornwall. Like most of you here, I’m obsessed with the craft—everything from watercraft, bait development, and rig mechanics to lake management and the sheer buzz of seeing a plan come together on the mat.
Angling has given me so much over the years that it became my life’s work. I run Kernow Coarse Fishery in Hayle. It’s a 6-acre venue home to two waters: The Reeds Lake, our pleasure and match water, and Sharkies Pit, our dedicated specimen carp water. Running a venue bankside day-in, day-out definitely keeps you grounded—from aeration and water quality management to mapping contours and organic silt control, there’s never a quiet day!
Alongside the fishery, my biggest passion project and purpose is The Mighty Anglers CIC, a non-profit Community Interest Company we set up to make angling accessible to everyone, especially the next generation.
A massive part of what we do revolves around our Saturday Kids Club and youth coaching academy. Our goal isn't just handing a kid a rod; it's about genuine coaching, fish welfare, watercraft, and building confidence outdoors. Over the past 3 years, we’re incredibly proud to say we’ve helped get over 4,000 children into fishing.
Every youngster works through structured milestones—we've even published our own Academy workbooks so they learn everything from unhooking and fish handling right through to reading the water.
Alongside the Saturday club, we run school educational modules, partner with youth mentorship charities, and work with social prescribing programmes to show what time by the water can really do for mental health and wellbeing.
Seeing kids who have never held a rod before land their first fish, or watching our young regulars gain genuine watercraft and respect for the environment, is hands down one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.
Between keeping the fishery ticking over, running the club, and squeezing in my own time behind the rods on the specimen water when I can, it’s a busy life—but I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Looking forward to getting stuck into the discussions on here, talking tactics, sharing ideas, and connecting with fellow carp heads!
Tight lines,
Ryan

Hello Ryan,I have heard about the good work you do..
Often thought about a trip down that way one day ,furthest I've done is Argal ,College, Bussow and Carwengen ..
We have a small fishery locally, where I can see youngsters are dead keen,I've tried to help many of them over the years, some don't listen, and get themselves banned for silly things ...
Kernow bys vyken 👍
