I've just come across this material and wondered if anybody has had any carp rods made up using it? It appears to be a sticky carbon tape that is used by rod builders to hold guides to the blank. This replaces the need for thread but is still coated in epoxy resin in the same way. The advantages are a neater flatter finish, much quicker build time and keeps the weight of the rod down.

The tape referred to in that article is the tape to seal the finished carbon blank when on the mandrel and not the air mesh tape used for rod guides.
Another blank “treatment” is to add a weave or tape layer over the main carbon to create a patterned cosmetic appearance. This has become very common across modern blanks, but it’s also where looks can start to interfere with function — because once you add material to the outside of a blank, you’re not just changing the appearance; you’re changing the structure the rod has to work with.
