Whilst out fish spotting in the boat I noticed a reasonable amount of what looked suspiciously like carp fry... if it was carp as they were the size of the width of my palm would that be this year's fry please?

They'd be at least two or three years old.
It's rare for carp in the wild to grow as fast as farmed fish due to the lack of freely available food, predation, etc.

This years fry are gonna be about 1- 3 inches at the min?

A friend has 75 babies harvested from this years spawning and that is what size they are. No where near the size of your palm.

I had a baby leather come in with a weedball the other evening and that was about 2 inches long.
