I am not bad at doing self takes on the bank but never have done them whilst in the water.

Does anyone have any experience doing water shots yourself?

Are you putting your tripod in the water?

Never tried water shots but I would be worried about the tripod falling over and knackering your phone.

I tried it once, but left the camera at the front of the swim instead of in the water. This isn't always suitable if the margin doesn't allow. The end image didn't really warrant the faff, so I've not bothered again.

Ill admit I'm not a expert in this, but i recently watched someone on my water who always does water shots on his fish via self takes and they are always great pictures.

Bank stick in the water with camera/phone and a blue tooth clicker.
Stand waist dept and have the fish on the mat, 90 degrees opposite where the camera is facing - in essence you pick up the fish turn 90 degrees take picture and then turn back and put it back on mat to rotate and take a picture of the other side if fish.
