I'm off to France in July and fishing a huge public water. Been before and tended to fish at 200m+ taking the rigs out by boat and dropping them on the spots. Given the distance, thinking braid might be a good idea this time but as this it will only ever be used once a year at the most I don't want to spend a fortune on spooling up 3 reels with 300m each! I appreciate the cheap Chinese stuff isn't going to be the best quality but as I'm never going to be casting with it, will it still be an improvement over standard mono?

I've been using it for pike fishing and on spod marker rod for years. I prefer the 8 srand one. It's floats but that will be what you want a 200 yards. Go by diameter as the breaking strains ateso random.

Mmmm not sure floating braid will work, as it's a public water you have to put up with a lot of water sports and a jet ski hitting the line would make for an interesting run!!

NGT 30lb braid did me just fine for a hugely weedy week at Wraysbury last season, having never used braid I was hugely impressed with it for the money. No knots when casting, no snaps or tangles at all.
You could do much worse in my opinion.

Also worth having a look at the Hercules braid on Ebay, seems well regarded.
Thanks all, does the Spider\Hercules stuff sink OK? Or is all braid likely to sink under it's own weight at 200+ metres?

I think it’s what you would describe as neutral buoyancy. It will sink under tension.
True Sinking braids are a different beast altogether, often very thick, doesn’t cast brilliantly and typically available in smaller spools. It’s thicker because it’s
Interwoven with the sinking material (forget what it is off the top of my head)
You also need to be careful with proper sinking braid when towing out long distances as it will sink into weed or underwater snags. I’m not an expert in these things as just going out for the first time this year myself, but I think the neutral buoyancy stuff is what most people use. Happy to be corrected tho.
