Thinking about buying the Frontier 2 XL bivvy

I've just bought one and be using it for the first time tomorrow for a couple of nights so will see how it goes. Have heard some stories about the geared/ratchet block breaking but it seems that's mostly down to user error. My mate has one and I told him to make sure he watch's the video etc of how to put it down. He didn't and broke it Ÿ¤·Ÿ»€™‚¸
A couple of friends have the first model X and I was toying between the X and XL. The X looks a good size and currently having the Tempest 100T I wanted a similar size. Decided to go for the XL because of the extra head height and it only being 20cm wider than the X
Also have the extension wrap which I might try out this weekend too but sure the Bivvy itself will be big enough

I'd ruled the XL out until further down the line, tested in the real world, so I'll be interested too in what you think in use
I'd sort of resigned myself to finding a aquatex ev 100T as a alternative, increased entry height being my need/want.

Well I've set it up and it's a really nice bivvy. Great height which is what I wanted but maybe a bit too wide, could've probably gone for the X. Not sure why they gave me 32 pegs and what seems like 8 miles of guy ropes though Ÿ˜‚
I'm 6ft 1 and reaching the block is doable but shorter people may struggle with setup/pack down as it's a reach over. Goes up really quick but zipping in the groundsheet can take some time especially if you use the front as there are 4 different zips for it. 1 zip for the front, 4 zips for the door, 10 zips for the vents around the bivvy
It's big and heavy in the bag but reckon I can knock a couple of kg off it by removing the 23 pegs I didn't use Ÿ˜‚
Took a bit of time to set up as it's the first time but sure it will get quicker the more I use it
Tested out the block a few times fanning it out and collapsing it again and had no issues. But can see where the user error can come in when collapsing it if you don't lift and hold the button properly

Width wise, I guess it's what your used to. I'll be coming from a V2 Air @ 265cm W, I note the XL is 270cm W, so not that much difference. I saw a youtube vid with the Mk1 XL with a Flatliner bed in it and that's why I thought it'd be ideal, but it's more the height with a bad back, knees and hip, less bending down. I did look at the x but @ 140cm H I'm not so sure.
I'm not sure what bed your using or how the Mk2 XL is flatness wise at the back, do you think there'd be much wasted space with a bed tight up against the back?
EDIT, just found a new vid of it online and I'm wondering what the width of the back 2 panels is now as that'd restrict how far the bed can go back if not wide enough.

I have the Flatliter MK2 bed and it pushes right back with next to no wasted space behind it. Have about 10cm space at the foot end and about 25cm at the head end so plenty of space either end. I've had the Tempest 100T for a few years now and having a flat back has made quite a bit of difference, can get my big fox chair inside fairly comfortably, bivvy table, rucksack etc and still got loads of room around the door area
One thing I will have to get used to is the blackout lining, pitch black with the door down even in the bright sunshine we've had today. Even now in the rain I have the door down letterbox style and it's dark in here
