Hello gentlemen,
I need a new file. I always used the Jag Max SP file and now that has been worn, I want to buy a new file.
What would you buy: a regular metal file (like the Jag file) or a diamond file (like the Nash Pinpoint one) and why, please? I heard Leon Bartropp mention he likes the diamond files better as he doesn't have to press as hard if the files are getting older (and wears out), thus the diamond files stay cutting the metal better.
What is your view? Thanks in advance!

I have used regular diamond nail files also many of my friends who have also fished for decades for carp. No carp tax and very effective. Also you get them in several versions to suit your needs.

The wife bought me a diamond file, still sits in a drawer, always used a sharpening stone and I'm stuck in my ways. Got to admit though the thinner profile of some of the DF would make them easier to user...hmm
For years now, I have just gone to the likes of Super drug or B&M and bought Diamond files or Glass files from them for hook sharpening, cheaper than chips. I have a proper metal file but rarely use it as it unless a hook is extremely blunt, and then only a couple of strokes to get the "roundness" off the point and finish with a diamond file etc.
Thanks for your input guys. I think I will just try the Nash diamond file (made by pinpoint), which has a fine and regular side.
I was sharpening a few hooks earlier while waiting for a carp to visit.
This is all i use and it does the job just great...
Cheapo ngt hook vice, small draper needle file and cheapo china 3 for £7 file. LINKY POO™ https://ebay.us/m/rHln83
The oil pen is good for putting a layer on the hooks to prevent corrosion, organic castor oil, it works well.
The china file is used to take most of the meat off as its a bit wider and a bit easier to reduce how many times I stick the hook point in my finger!
The draper is a slightly finer cut to finish the point area, and its thin enough to use as a lever to lock the hook vice tightly.
This is all i use and it does the job just great...

I use a Stihl chainsaw file to get the sharpness I want and then a thinking anglers wetstone to hone it, lethal.
