I overestimated how much i'd use over the last three months, as a result I've got about 10kg in cold water soaking a bucket which I was planning to boil in Mid March.

The water smells foul, and as soon as the lid comes off, you can smell it about 30ft away.

Smells like death.

Shall I just boil in fresh water, boil it in the manky water, or bin the lot?

Take a few out and rinse them. Break them open and have a sniff, if they seem ok then taste them.
If it seems ok then give a a boil and use. Any concerns then bin it

Why take the chance for the sake of a fivers worth of rancid particles,
Personally I'd bin them and start fresh , if they smell like death to you from 30' away id say they've gone too far

Similar happened to me went in holiday for a week last year with around 20 litres of maize left soaking. If I remember I burried it in a field behind my back garden some of the water spilt and could smell it for months. Me personally I would get rid of it particles can cause harm at the best of times god knows what could happen at the worst not worth the risk imo.

Sentence 2 & 3....and youre asking if you should keep it.
Im genuinely not being funny, but I'm a bit shocked given your appraisal, and its worth, that you're even asking.

If my response seems harsh its not meant to be, but sometimes common sense should prevail.

Hi Vossy,

I know people use boiled particles for many months AFTER they are boiled, and I'm happy to use particles for long periods after, but it's pre boiled that i'm pondering about.

I should have been more detailed in my questioning, as I was wondering if that 'death' smell is naturally occurring and will have no negative effects, or if the mix is in fact well past the stage where I have the ability to boil it. It's not a situation I've had before, as I'm pretty regimented with my boil ups

Thanks

Many thanks for the replies chaps. I hate wastage, so if there was even the smallest chance I could use them I would, but if it's going to have any detrimental effects then of course it's going to be binned off

I get that Aidey but my response would be the same in any case, it was due to 'smells like death' and '30'' away bit

I've used boiled on the turn (vomit smell) and the fish didn't seem to care and I'm sure fermented might impede bacterial/fungal growth for a while, but I draw the line at smells like death

If you had boiled them up in fresh water they'd have only smelled like death warmed up 🤢
