Morning all, ive had a relatively decent week on my syndicate with 2 on the bank one of which being over 30. Both on zigs.
But
Ive lost 2 fish due to terrible bite indication from the delkims.
1st I woke up to find my zig around the corner from where I cast it the evening before.
2nd I was wrapping my biv up and I got a single beep. I looked and could see the bobbin tight and the rod tip bouncing. This fish was kiting right on a tight line and the delkims were silent. By the time I connected with the fish it was too late and he had got me in a weed bed. Im certain the same situation happened on the first lost fish and I slept through it.
It's worth noting that I have my sensitivity cranked up and my bleep speed cranked up when fishing zigs. Ive only been using the delkims a short time after switching from a roller alarm and im starting to regret it.

I bet you are fishing a bobbin or swinger that's far too lightweight for purpose.

Im using the nitelite with the heaviest weight available. Regardless of that though, a fish kiting on a tight line through a weedbed surely should have them singing???

If there is no drop on the counterweight and no line is coming off the clutch or baitrunner then how is the alarm supposed to sound?
The lack of sensitivity is further amplified if you cast out at an angle as the rod tip then can bend so absorbing any pull on the counterweight and reel.
Then the line goes through weedbeds, further reducing any indication..
I have no idea how heavy your bobbin is, but it needs to be an effective counterweight so there is still some immediate indication at the alarms.

Thanks ill have a fiddle around with them, I guess I was just expecting more considering they are vibration sensing vs distance travelled.

A lot of zig takes are drop backs. as mentioned use a heavy bobbin set up to amplify the indication. And make sure the lines as tight as possible. Pull the line by hand until you feel the lead and take on the slack on the spool.
I'm constantly amazed watching carp fishing videos how many anglers use light weight bobbins for all fishing situations. Horses for courses.

Really, you should be using springer arms for zigs. Failing that, the heaviest bobbin you can get away with, and on the tightest possible line

BUT, I had exactly this happen to me with my TXis, in fact 1 day I watched the springer slowly drop to the floor no indication. I lost a coulpe of good fish at night because of it. I videod it happening and asked Delk, they said the 'head' (y piece sensor) needed replacing. My alarms weren't even that old, maybe 18 months. I got them repaired and moved them on. I believe Delk no longer service TXi and rec Daletronics for repairs.

This is the exact reason why I sold my delkims. I also showed the owner of delkim on the carp Zwolle fair that slow drop backs don't register. With heavy, light bobbins or new or old buzzers and y forks.....

Not fishing zigs but I have noticed fishing locked up I barely get any indication too on on my TXI plus.

Out of interest mate what did you go for in the end?
I'm pretty sure my issues are because of the type of swingers I'm using but I'm also convinced if a carp is kiting on a tight line through a weed bed that delkims should be picking that up.

Most roller alarms will struggle in that situation too, espesh those designed to rule out see sawing, even had it happen on the old RX, just the odd bleep, the only real option being a vibe setting.

Would dropping the lead and having a high rod tip tip help? I'm no expert on zigs, but with an aggressive angle, any loss of lead coupled with a super heavy bobbin should get a nice steady drop on the bobbin. Coupled with a line clip a few inches behind, you should get decent indication and maintain enough of a tight line between the Delk and reel?
