Hi Chaps,

I'm looking at converting my “manual” carporter Big Boy tri porter to a powered version.

I know there are a few rouge companies out there and was looking to get the full kit from ukbarrowconversions.com. These are the same company as boatman.co.uk

Can anyone provide any feedback.

Also which would be the best battery option, the lakes i fish aren't miles from the carpark neither are they too hilly. I do like to take sufficient tackle and dont really take minimal kit, although i am trying to wittle my tackle down.

There are 3 options 6ah, 10a & 12ah, i was looking no to go middle of the road with the 10ah, but was thinking of just getting the 12ah as to future proof my purchase.

As a side note i do have the after market swivel wheels fitted from Barrow buddies.

Also i have to fully dismantle my barrow to fit in the car and dont have a van or the luxury of driving the barrow into the car.

Any and all advice would be welcome and well received.

I bought one of their conversions for a trakker gravity barrow last week, just back from using it for the first time. I bought it to replace a TSM bank tank conversion I have been using for over 8 years but has started to play up recently.

Customer service was fantastic, I got some advice on battery size and went for the for the 12ah just to be on the safe side. Not sure the was the right choice yet.

In use the new conversion kit is smaller and tidier than my old one. I could tell the difference in power straight away but the old kit was 12v so that was to be expected.

Also found I can leave the wheel on the barrow in my car and in the shed.

Early days but very pleased so far.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I'll probably go with the 12ah to be on the safe side.

I have sent a few queries to them directly and they respond really quickly.

I have the same barrow as you and recently bought their conversion and opted for the 12AH which is bloody great! Ordered on the Thursday and turned up on the Friday.

Pack away time is a minute extra and makes life so much easier now that I fish swims I simply wouldn't entertain due to a shoulder injury.

The longer the Amp hours - the longer the battery lasts between recharging. This is obvs based on barrow load weight / distance / inclines etc but as a rule I'd go for the largest battery you can afford anyway just to make life easy! I've been using 12AH Lithium on my Gash barrow and charged them several months ago - the throttle control is still on 'green / amber' and I've been using it every week . . massive difference compared to lead acid

I'm looking for getting the same set up for my big boy only thing not sure of is the 6&10ah batterys are lipo and the 12ah is lithium ion what should I go for

Lithium ion 👍

Steer clear of Lipo unless you've good fire insurance.
