I'm having issues spooling up with some 12lb ESP Syncro

First tried the way shown on ESP's video (spool stood up in water line coming up from under the spool)but after 50ft or so, line twist was horrendous so swapped to the opposite way round (line coming over the spool) and the line twist was even worse.

Finished spooling the reel using the first method and the line just spools off on its own like a slinky!!

I'd soaked the line in warm water for just over an hour and run through a damp rag between butt eye and reel.

WTF am I doing wrong? Never had this issue before with Syncro or any other line?

spool up anyway you wish and then go to a field and walk your lines out, i must admit my 15 synchro was quite lively when I spooled up this time,waled my lines out and once used and it stops being shiny it's perfect

I think something has changed on the syncro,I have used it for years.This last lot I have one my reels is ***** compared to previous times,spooled up as op describes.Its been on my reels months now and **** not like it was before and it does not seem anywhere near as abrasion resistant as before either

I had a fish out of sandhurst last week, it went over the back of the bar on its first run,it was stripping line off the reel, I played it in and the rod tip was grating as the fish was behind the bar. no way did I think I was going to land it but I did. the last 6ft of line was shredded and the fish put up a right scrap once from behind the bar...it certainly done me well last week. a decent fish too

I spooled it as per their vid, no issues.

I might of got a bad spool,I will definitely be putting it on again just incase

I first spooled up about 5 years ago with synchro and hated it, my mates loved it...I stripped it off as it was really lively.my mates convince me to have another go a few years ago and since then I loved it...I think it does need a few sessions to calm down on the spool

I spooled my reels with it yesterday. Soaked it for a few hours first. Then mounted it on a home made rig ive made (uni strut and a 150mm m10 coach bolt, a drilled out sprung zebede, nuts and washers) spooled it up with the spool upright so it spins from behind as i reel it onto the reels. Went on lovely. No issues whatsoever.

Have never got this laying the spool down thing. Seems so unnatural to me, and i cant see how it doesnt put twist into the line. ive never had issues with the spool spinning as described above so no need to change it.

So just had my 5 yr old lad running across a field for me (he needs the exercise after the amount of chocolate he's ate today!!) but it's still lively and springing off the spool

I'll give a few sessions and see if it settles down and look at something else if it doesn't

Put some water on it a few minutes before you do anything with it. Behaves totally differently after a few minutes of soaking in a bit of water

Emailed ESP support to ask the same question, they could only suggest adding more tension to the line when spooling up.

They also offered to send me a new spool of line so top marks for service to them!!

Can't argue with that

I've just had the same issue with the 15lb, it went on nice but was coiling everywhere and even difficult to catch the line when casting.

I was in France for the week so put some Gardner flouro+ on it which helped at the time, but think I'm going back to Exocet pro..

Something has definitely changed with the 15lb syncro,that's how mine is behaving.I have not overfilled my spools either

I spooled up with 15lb Synchro XT last year - thought it was horrible springy stuff with terrible memory. If I hadn't have known what it was I'd have guessed it was old/cheapo stuff.

It's currently still on the spools (was hoping it would settle in somewhat) but it hasn't improved when 'dry' despite stretching, walking out and retrieving under no tension, etc. However once the rods have been out for an hour or so the line seems to totally change, with water on board it's limp, supple and the memory is greatly reduced. Sadly it seems to revert to being horrible when it dries.
