Brought some second hand Penns, love them and they feel bulletproof but are pretty heavy.
Saw a good deal on some Okuma Obsidian and I couldn't resist and now don't know which to keep!
Anyone had the Okumas for a whole and can report how they have been? Or seen both reels and can offer thier input?

If you've only just bought the Okumas you're better off seeing how you get on with them, nobody else can give you an opinion that trumps your own findings.

They are the Affinity III version, not the bait runners.
And I still have the option to send the Okumas back, had my eye on them for a while and just wanted to see some in person to get a proper look at them.
The Penn are superb, but maybe twice the weight and they are fairly well used.
I say that, weight won't be a huge issue unless they become my main reels as currently they are only to be used in France once or twice yearly.

I just looked it up... 920g for the III, that is indeed heavier!

They are chunky! The Okuma are a touch over 500.
The Penn feel more robust / well made but maybe they should at nearly double the weight 🤣

No, not massively. Will be doing a fair bit of boat work and would be marginally easier with the lighter setup.
Just not sure if the older more solid reels would be better than newer and lighter tech (newer, obviously doesn't mean better as standard)

I have the Penn Vantage XT 7000 reels and can honestly say they are the best reels I have ever owned. Built with quality components that a comparable Daiwa or Shimano would cost three times as much! Penn have been making reels for nearly 100 years so they know what they are doing. I wouldn't change to an Okuma under any circumstances.
Can't comment on the okumas, don't really like the look of them though tbf looks cheap even if they're not.
I've had the original ltd affinities which I lived but when they got nicked I bought the affinity 3s and honestly don't notice the weight, I love them and wouldn't change them unless some carbon affinities came up cheap.
I had old ultegra Xta 12000 and not sure of the weight but they defo felt a lot heavier than the penns

Been using the obsidians more or less since they came out and very happy with them, I prefer them to the ci4's I have and highly recommend them, a bargain price for what they are. Before I got the obsidians I bought an affinity 3 after hearing the good reviews but sold before using due to the weight of it.
