Hi, i've spooled up with TA's braided mainline and i'm looking to use a metre of mono/ flouro as a leader , im only casting very short distances so its not needed as a shock leader for casting, my question is is mono a better option over flouro , as flouro has very little stretch wouldnt a mono leader give a better shock absorbtion when playing a fish close in as the stretch would help negate the braids non stretch if that makes sense. I have 25lb Amnesia or 35lb Seaguar Ace Hard flouro as possibilities, appreciate your thoughts

I don't think there will be much if any difference in the stretch on just 1 metre of mono or fluro, personally i'd go with the fluro.

I agree. That's my normal go too. Fluoro leader on braid and don't suffer hook pulls

Why do you want to add 1m of nylon or fluoro?
I assume it camouflage related?

Ive always been led to belive that adding some thing behind the lead helps prevent any damage to the fish and also to provide a small amount of stretch/ cushioning

if its not a very snaggy water i use a mono leader currently ive been using korda carpline in 20lb as a short leader. Whether you use mono or flouro is your choice.
This way like you want i have the advantages of using the braid with the extra cushioning effect of the mono at the end of the braid.
I use a longer length than you in that my leader knot sits between the the reel and butt ring when casting, like you want its not for a casting leader as the braid is strong enough for that, but also with the knot off the spool it cannot snag or catch coming off the spool on the cast.
If im fishing abroad on a big public water dropping rigs from a boat obviously i use a longer and heavier mono snag leader.

Also when i have used flouro leaders in this country i have used the seaguar ace hard in 30 and 35lb with no issues at all

I would go for PB stretch attack. A lead free leader with a lot of stretch
I'm fishing on a snaggy water and combine my braid with 20m of hollow fiber.
It's an amazing leader reducing the size of the knots allowing fish safe lead systems.

20 metres ?? Thats quite a long length ! Also how do you join your braid to that leader?? Cheers

The length of the snag leader depends on how I'm fishing and the depth of the water
Pb hollow Kevlar is a spliceable leader, so., no Albright, Mahon or FG knot involved.

As has been said, 1m of mono or flouro will have negligible stretch in it. If for protecting the fishes flanks, why not just use tubing? One less knot.

I'll be using it on the river so i'd be worried about the current lifting the tubing off the river bed and bowing up making it quite visible

There's all sorts of debris in rivers, doubt that they could tell the difference between tubing and twigs. And your visible braided mainline would only be a couple of feet away anyway if you were that concerned 🤷🏻♀️
