I've bought 2 infinity reels, the spools have the Johnson Ross line clips on, the line is really hard to get behind the clip, it's like the spring is too strong for the clip, also the clips are quite big and pretty much fill up the slot they sit in, anybody had the same issue and can point me in the right direction on what to do ? I converted the line clips on my 5000t myself and they are perfect, the line goes behind really easily.

They are the Weston ones sorry not the Johnson Ross I've just realised. They are just really hard to get the line behind and I've never had that before. Also feel like they might kink the line too, it's like there isn't enough space around the clip to get the line in, the clip is pretty much touching the slot both sides.

I had a similar problem when I upgraded the old shark tooth on my emblems to a nice sprung metal clip.
I had to file the clip recess sides to allow the new clip to sit better and allow easier line access.

I'll photo mine when I can and put them up. Them rubber washers make them near perfect and the line won't bounce out either when hitting the clip.
Granted I've only tried braid so far up to 90 yards

I was totally wrong.
I've got South Custom reels on one set and Weston Developements on the other. The SCR are more conical at the rear and stand off the spool more than the WD making it easier to get the line in, even though the spring appears to me to be stronger. They can however move about a bit because of it and I think it's this that's interfering with my line guard every now and then.
The Weston spring to me is weaker but the clip sits more flush and doesn't move about as much as the SCR, for that reason it's more awkward to put the line in. I tend to use the edge of my nail to guide it under. I think you'd defo have to use the line guards fixed back with a spacer washer in there but WD recommend that anyway.
Spikes idea of the washers came up in another thread I seem to rem, I liked the idea then.

EDIT, on looking at the pic of the SCR clip above I think you can see it's leaning over to one side creating a bigger gap near side,
