One of the lakes I fish have these weed that's absolutely killing my presentation.
It's like a silk week but is browny red instead of green.
It's choking the lead clip but worse, it's all over any rig and hook presentation I try. Rake the spot, load the bait down to get fish to clear it and couple hours later its all over and have to start again
Does anyone know what this weeds called please. I can't work out the height it grows.
Redish brown, single strand like horse hair.

That stuff is a nightmare. It's the same on my lake and no amount of raking, baiting makes a difference. I reckon it lays on the deck flat because it's ok to fish over until I get any fish feeding then I think they disturb it upwards and like you say, covers everything. The only solution for me is to fish singles and keep moving the bait about when you have a take to avoid the crud, not ideal but the fish seem to love being in it.

Getting to that time of year now when it all starts dying off and drifting about. I wouldn't get caught up thinking the fish won't feed in it, or that your presentation won't catch fish, it's not ideal but it's pretty fluffy in situ nothing like how it comes in on the retrieve, but if undertow is strong!
I watched a underwater 360 deg video the other day, The Ginger Fisherman, it showed the hook bouncing around on the rocks, being picked up and ejected, but guess what, he still caught. I sat there wondering, if this was a Korda video how many times would that rig have been changed due to blunted hooks & presentation. It does make me wonder how many fish are missed due to not fishing where they are due to force fed preconceptions of the perfect rig and placement!

This stuff is a mare.
Lead clip gets wrapped up so lead will not eject. Hook is buried deep in it. Crayfish pull rig under the weed.
I find a clear patch and next thing is a new batch rolls in. 13-16 foot of water.
I bream fished in January and weed was still about in mass.
Need a lawn mower to thin out

I've had a bit of trouble this year with weed, lake dye has been added a few times and as it's a shallow lake it just seems to have a constant thick green layer of a dead silk weed type. The lake dye, in my opinion, was the reason for the 5 week long algae bloom which didn't help.
I have had a couple of fish when fishing in it, but do worry at times about presentation.
