But of a random post but here goes. I've been using a heavy fishmeal this year on a lake and have scored well but the fish on the river since getting back on have been very odd. I'm in an area that I know holds carp as I've seen them but since adding the fishmeal they literally disappeared. Having read up a bit on otters, which are localish to the area got me wondering whether the carp are actually seeing a heavy fish scent as danger due to the gland secretion from the otter. Replacing the food signal with a Predator signal....As per the title, is it possible??

Doubt the fishmeal would put the carp off of the feed.... but an otter, or two, in the area hunting sure would put them off feeding/stress out, or move them away.
Otters can travel 10-20 miles in a single night, I BELIEVE

Most possibly ,is the very realistic chance, that those carp have gone to the big lake in the Sky..

I know what you mean but the river is absolutely full of otters with small pockets of carp still surviving. There is a Holt nearby in a backwater yet I still see carp, not many but they are there. Oddly I never see the carp downstream from where the backwater enters the river, my thoughts being that the carp can sense them via olfaction and keep upstream.

Definitely lost numbers of carp over the years but some remain. With seals downstream and otters everywhere else is all on borrowed time. I seeing more fish this autumn compared to past years so I'm hoping the fish feel safer in the area, however long that will last

This post reminds of something I came across today actually..
Met this chap on a small water, we got talking about another small place it turns out we both knew about .
I said to the chap you know it's been ottered don't you ?,he said never seen no signs of predation..
I said, hang on I'll get my phone..sure enough was lots of predation pics ,spraint,kills etc,etc usual stuff,.. scales,all over ..on that above mentioned pool.
My point is ,some,not all people miss the oh so subtle signs of predation ,although in this case it was really obvious ..
I think I opened his eyes....

Seen an otter once bloated in a crayfish trap...don't even have crayfish my way...
