Do rods deteriate with age .
I know the Paragons 2.5 TC are soft which I like but I was having trouble getting a small double in.
Or is it because the angler has deteriated with age

A 2.5 tc rod is not soft in my opinion . The paragons i recall are very nice you should be able to just bend the rod into the fish as long as your clutch is set right or you back wind correctly you should,nt have a problem.

Some rods do soften with heavy use, depends on the quality of the blank.

It is the rod
The bottom section is not quite straight and in one direction its very soft whilst in the opposite direction it locks up
I have another rod with a repaired top section so have combined the two to make one good rod so will give that a try next time
They are probably over ten years old so hopefully I might get a few more years out of one rod
