I bought some leaders and went to tie them on my mainline and the loop just came away, daft question , is this normal? im newly back in the scene and used to splice my own leadcore but its banned on the lake, does this happen often on leadfree leaders or have i just got 3 dodgy ones? cheers

Not used the pre made ones but I've spliced my own and had the same thing happen before. Not often but I've treble checked since the first one and it's happened 5/6 times since over a 5/6yr period I've been using their leadfree leader. It'll be something in the manufacturing process. Take them back to the shop.

When I spliced my own in the pastt I noticed the splice would start to slip over time
It seemed to be when it was relaxed and dry ( not under tension)
I started to make the splice longer and kept an eye on it, never lost one through

I have only ever spiced my own lead free leaders and submerge is one of my favourite materials. I use to add a dab of superglue but don't bother anymore but I do make sure the spice is at least 50 mm and the loop is as small as practical.

I have never had one fail under tension but you can pull splice out if pulling just on the loose end while the leader is slack.

If yours failed under tension take them back they are faulty
