Can anyone please advise, do the arms of your landing net need to be a certain size to match your spreader block, i.e. can I mix and match brands/sizes? I've got a spare net but no spreader block. Do I need to measure the diameter of the arms and buy a block to fit specifically? Or just buy one they go into and tension does the rest?

Nowadays most arms are made to fit a certain spreader block. That's not to say that some can't be mixed and matched, but you'd need to check.

If they're standard taper carbon arms you can measure them then ask the block maker, I can't rem the size but there was a industry standard. I do know gardner arms are bigger as I had to have new ones made by TNT for them. I think the Top Notch Tackle site states the size as the block arms fits most nets, worth a look there.

EDIT, TNT standard arm receivers 12.6mm for 12.5mm 'standard' arms
I'd avoid too much 'slack' in the block personally.
